My husband and I wanted to have a real nice dinner date and we reserved a table for the Christmas Eve dinner. When we entered the restaurant, we were questioned by the elderly waitress if we had made a reservation. We said yes. But she didn't seem to believe us and questioned us at least 3 more times if we had a reservation. She was very cold and we were taken aback. After all we had the reservation, so we were let in and given a place. We went for a traditional fondue from the menu. Sometime later we were served a salad. We thought it came with the fondue menu and accepted it. In a while, a young waitress who served us came and told us this salad didn't come in the fondue menu, but told us that we didn't have to pay for that since it was their mistake. But the entire team were seen talking about this pointing to our table for a while which made us feel very uncomfortable. The elderly waitress served the other two tables around us and seemed very nice and warm to the other couples. Sorry to say this, I am not sure if our skin colour bothered her. There is no other possible explanation. My husband and I meanwhile thought that we would pay for the salad since we had it anyway and that would be nice on our part. Unfortunately, the elderly waitress who was not serving us until then snatched the salad bowl off the table without even asking us. That seemed very rude and we were upset and decided not to offer to pay for the salad. The food and ambience were great! Can't complain! But that's not the only thing that gives one person an overall nice experience. We just hope no one else faces this and we thank the team for the...
Read moreTourist trap. A lot of mediocre cheese on an awkwardly small table. Service wasn't great either.
I've had so much great cheese from Austria, Italy, and Switzerland on this trip that I was so excited to come to this place and indulge in a cheese-first experience.
We got the raclette (2 person) + mushroom side. Asked to see if we could just get 1 portion and order more sides. Unfortunately, could only get 2 persons. Way too much food. Thankfully, they do have to go, but, given we didn't enjoy it, I would rather not have the extra food.
The first bite was filed by my initial excitement. However, that slowly waned away as I realized I was getting the same mediocre cheese (to be honest, the worst cheese thus far on the trip). To add on top, the vegetables tasted as if previously frozen, not fresh.
A saving grace was the mushrooms. These were excellent. However, well overpriced as it was mainly normal button mushrooms, with a few nicer mushrooms like morels or shitake.
The service was not what we expected. Not friendly/polite or overly helpful with the menu for a place boasting great service. The eating situation is interesting, we had a small round table that could barely fit all the side dishes, most were sprawled out on the window sill. This made for an awkward dining experience. For the price, and given the greedy food, I thought we might also get a handkerchief to protect our clothing.
Overall, I bump up to three stars because they were busy with a tour group at the time. I'd recommend instead going to place that serves small fondues/raclette if you're...
Read moreLOVED THIS PLACE. My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful experience here. It took us a few minutes to find, originally, as it’s kind of tucked away in the corner and up a flight of stairs. We asked to sit by the window, cause the sun was setting in Lucerne and it was a beautiful night. They opened all the windows for us so we could watch the sun set.
Our server - I can’t remember her name - was wonderful. We were looking for fondue, and were ready to shell out the cost of the two person minimum requirement for the 3-course meal: cheese, meat and chocolate. She told us that we could just pay for one person, and pay an additional plate fee of 6 CF and share the platter for one person. She was right - it was plenty of food for the two of us, and she saved us around 60 CF.
The food was just amazing. They brought out a salad for starters, which we didn’t expect. Then, we started with the house cheese fondue. I have no idea the mix, but it was fabulous. We were given bread and small potatoes. Next we had the meat fondue, which came with chicken, beef, vegetables, rice and French fries. It was delicious!! Next was the chocolate. This came with a dish of fruits - we enjoyed the apples the best. She then offered to bring us spoons so we could just eat the chocolate straight from the pot.
Also, I checked in on Yelp and got rewarded with a free glass of Sangria. She didn’t have any sangria at the moment so she let us choose any other drink on the menu.
Definitely recommend this place for traditional fondue, raclette, or other traditional Swiss...
