We stopped by this place at the recommendation of our hotel concierge because of its “authentic atmosphere”.
They had a sign at their staircase asking to wait to be seated. We waited for 10 minutes at the sign, a few waiters passed by no one even looked at us. We saw a few people ignore the sign and went to take their own seats. We thought to go up the stairs to see if there are seats available. Up there, we directly asked a waiter whether we can seat here or there. We got a dry “No” and “wait we will seat you.” A few more minutes passed by. Another waitress showed up. I asked her if she can give us a seat. She asked me to go down the few steps and wait! Then she rudely told my wife rolling her eyes “Please go down!” Are you kidding me?! All the fuss over giving us a table after you have ignored us for 15 minutes? We went down in disbelief and just at the moment my wife was trying to make sense of this lady’s behavior, she started giving us the “come over here” sign to show us a table at the same floor we were asked to leave 30 seconds ago!!
We werr fed up by thia rudeness. My wife asked her if she had to send us down and call us back up again? She goes like “Ja Ja.” We stopped talking to her and my wife went and asked for a superior to discuss the rude behavior. The person in charge came and gave us a lame excuse and some lukewarm apology. We sat down and had a hot coco and left.
There are many places with excellent service and customer reception in Zurich. Steer away from this place. While in a trurist friendly town in 21st century, they are still stuck in their regressive views of “do not serve them if they do not speak German.” The heck with you and...
Read moreAWFUL experience especially towards parents. Never EVER visit this place if you bring a stroller with you. Our experience was the following. We entered the store with our baby sleeping in the stroller. After queuing as instructed in order to be seated, we were approached by a waitress who explained that we could get a table, but no one will help us to lift the stroller in the first floor. This is perfectly fine with us. We can lift the stroller ourselves. Literally one minute later, another waitress approached with a totally different and super rude attitude. She told us that we can not be served if we have a stroller with us! We explained that her colleague told us something completely different one minute ago. She then started screaming to her colleague because she told us in the first place that we could be served! Her 'solution' was to be seated ONLY if we leave the stroller on the ground floor. We showed her that our baby is sleeping, we can't just take it off the stroller. The answer was that I am not a mother or a babysitter, so I don't care!!! Of course after that we left, some people are beyond education. What I would like to know if this attitude represents the whole store or just a single bad employee. If the former is the case I would urge all parents to avoid this store...
Read moreLocated in a bustling shopping area next to high-end stores like COS and Lululemon, Café & Conditorei 1842 provides a quaint escape for shoppers and city wanderers alike. Its prime spot makes it an ideal venue for those looking to indulge in some people-watching while enjoying a hot drink. The café itself exudes a charming atmosphere, allowing guests to relax and observe the lively streets of Zurich.
During our visit, we opted for two cappuccinos and a French croissant. The coffee was delightful, complementing the crisp, buttery croissant perfectly. However, the service did not live up to the café’s inviting ambiance. With only one waitress serving the outdoor area, we found ourselves waiting longer than expected to place our orders and even longer to receive our bill. This slow service significantly impacted our overall experience, making it difficult to fully appreciate the otherwise pleasant setting.
While Café & Conditorei 1842 scores high on location and atmosphere, the efficiency of service leaves room for improvement. If you’re not in a rush, this café might still be worth a visit for its scenic views and tasty offerings. Just be prepared for a leisurely pace, especially during peak hours.
I can't give this place 5 starts due to the...
