Wanted a place to eat near our hotel without going back downtown in Zurich. Found the Haldenbach only 750 meters away. Local family owned restaurant supported by the neighborhood. Our server from Turkey was very friendly and accommodating. Their specialty is Cordon Bleu in veal, pork or chicken. We asked for his suggestions and were not disappointed. He said it was very big, (figured almost a pound) so we split it. There was plenty for both of us. His wine suggestion was a delicious Tuscany wine. So good I had two. Dessert was a warm chocolate cake with a chocolate pudding center and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you are looking for a delicious meal and a decadent dessert this is the place. You will not be disappointed with the food...
Read moreThe XXL Cordon Bleu and Wienerschnitzel were very delicious. The service was some of the worst I've experienced in Zürich. The gentleman took 10 minutes to bring us our menus, then got angry when we attempted to retrieve them ourselves. That set the tone for the rest of the evening. Service was inefficient, curt, impolite, and unpleasant. The restaurant itself was very loud. It was nearly impossible to hold a conversation across the table. There are no wall coverings to dampen the noise.
Maybe they were understaffed? Maybe the gentleman was having a bad day? It's hard to understand, otherwise, the other good reviews.
If it's Cordon Bleu you're after, Gertrudhof or Waidhof offer more diverse and delicious options served...

The staff was very friendly and luckily for us, we happened to be there on a quiet night. We had a good experience with the cordon bleau! It wasn’t too greasy, but cooked perfectly. My partner had wished a slightly stronger cheese, but he really enjoyed it. I took a salad teller with veal and really liked it. Only thing, I wish the dressing had been home made ( but it’s often not the case in these types of places). We definitely...
