23 October 2022 - it was almost 3 years since my last visit and review. I chanced upon this place while searching for a dinner place and found my own review from my last visit. It felt so surreal.. as though i am supposed to return. They have expanded the menu, the food's still just as great and the service impeccable! Just when you thought it couldn't get better, they adopted a Japanese solgan that impressed my mum, a history buff, so much that she talked more about that than the food! Highly recommended the rice dumpling, fresh clam soup, chicken tigh and lamb skewers, topped with a bottle of sake.. and be transported to olden Japan where warlords chanted slogan to march into the battlefield!
Amazing amazing place with good food and good services! We wanted a late night snack after a round of hot spring and entered this little place at 10 pm in the evening. It must be the dip in sulphuric water that caused us being so hungry that we practically ordered half the menu, and we did not regret at all. The skewered chicken, beef were so well done and right to the point. The plates of stir fried vege and grilled zuchinni retained much of the original tastes with very light seasoning. The top dishes for me were the cod roe over Chinese yam and the clear yet full flavoured clam soup. The service from a group of really young boys were friendly and impacable, but the best got to be a young girl that helmed the stove, the place where all the good...
Read moreI have been wanting to eat at this restaurant for so long. We used to live at the top of the hill and walked by almost every day. The place is very very small and I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a kid-friendly but we got there right when they opened and were done before dinner rush. Luckily we did not need reservations.
Once you enter you are transported to a tiny izakaya in Japan. It’s really the size that makes it feel like a little nook where you can enjoy special and unique dishes.
My favorite dishes are the grilled chicken cartilage and baby corn. We also ordered the mentaiko udon which is very rich and creamy. I love the crunchy bonito eggs, a contrast to the chewy noodles. The miso eggplant is fantastic with a bowl of rice and could be a meal in itself. Someone recommended the lemon beer. Not for me, but I’m not a beer drinker. I wish I ordered sake!
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. No English assistance with the menu. I was able to use my phone and...
Read moreHonestly this restaurant is overrated. First, one of the waitresses was really NOT welcoming. She kept playing her hair even when customers asking her questions. Tho her colleagues were very nice, her poor attitude really ruin the atmosphere. I reserved a table for three, but they arranged a small table divided by plastic board, to share with another ppl of group of three. Never have I thought I need to sit with such uncomfortably small and crowded area. I did expect this restaurant would be a nice place to chill with family but it eventually NOT. For the food, generally okay but with a lot of MSG added. We’ve ordered quite a lot of dishes. One was tempera that we waited for a long time. When asked… they were surprised coz on the record it had been served BUT IT ACTUALLY WASN’T…… it was really a bad dinner experience after the three year… Beitou is still a lovely place to me but highly not recommend to visit this restaurant. Really...
