福田一方鳳梨酥 — Restaurant in Datong District

This place was an eye-opener for me in terms of 鳳梨酥. On previous visits to Taiwan I had found pineapple cakes to be sweet, soft and underwhelming. That changed when I had freshly baked ones from this shop (福田一方鳳梨酥). Simply outstanding! To be fair in comparing, I then tried ones that had been pre-packaged here. Of course, they're not as fantastic because they aren't warm and crisp, but they still stand out in terms of the texture of the pastry and the very good sweet-sour balance and texture of the pineapple filling. I've tried many other manufacturers' products (except ChiaTe because the queues are too long to bother), and I feel confident to say that 福田一方鳳梨酥 makes some of the best pineapple cakes in Taiwan. I love this pineapple cake place, I have been coming here for years. Every trip to Taiwan I go here, they are my favorite pineapple place in Taipei! It's also super great if you want to just pop by and have one, they take it fresh out of the oven for you so it's nice and warm. Every time I go to Ningxia night market this is my dessert. I do buy lots to take home to Canada, the mix pack is always appreciated. The flavors are Matcha, Chocolate, Cranberry and original, I bring two mix packs(12 each) back and a 20 pack of original. Taiwan has the best pineapple tarts not only because they produce the best pineapple in the world but also the artisan pastry they have in the country. Futien makes one of the best in Taipei and price is very reasonable compared to others. They sold in boxes but the best part is that you can purchase single piece and savior them on the spot.
