Garden.V Restaurant — Restaurant in Hsinchu

Nicely decorated restaurant with good food, but limited flexibility. This is a popular restaurant next the Big City shopping mall which means that it’s convenient to park in the mall and eat there. Note that it’s a good place to take guests and with slightly upmarket prices (and not very large portions apart from the chicken and cabbage soup). The dishes are Shanghai style and slightly sweeter than other places. Generally everything we ordered tasted nice and fresh. I particularly enjoyed the cabbage and chicken soup and the beef with spring onions. The egg with tomato would have benefited from a pinch of salt to balance the heavy sweetness. There were a couple of things that could have been improved: Vegetation options: A couple of our party were vegetarian and were careful to ask if the dishes they wanted continued meat and to choose ones that didn’t. They were still brought a tufu dish with meat despite checking (it was remade but still). Additionally most the veg contained meat. Generally I wouldn’t go if you have any vegetarians in your party even if they’re not very strict.

The other thing that was below par was the service speed for basic things like bringing rice and clearing the table. Servers would take one or two empty dishes and leave the rest on the table to the point where we asked them to clear the table once there bought the desserts as there wasn’t much room for the small bowls. Really just a bit more training needed.
