2/5 Overall From the price, food quality and service, Da Che Lun Sushi 大車輪火車壽司 disappoints at all levels. You'll typically see a line out the door with people wanting to eat here. Don't trust the line. It's all other tourists.

2/5 Service: As soon as you sit down at Da Che Lun Sushi 大車輪火車壽司they hand you a menu and wait there for you to order. It felt rushed and they recommend their specials. The specials didn't look that good but we tried one anyway with disappointing results.

2/5 Scallops were overcooked and tasted like rubber. I wouldn't get it again

2/5 Chopsticks are cheap and had a lot of splints

3/5 Cheese croquettes were okay, but wouldn't get it again.

3/5 Sushi: The sushi is served with thick slices on a small ball of rice. No matter how you eat it, the sushi will collapse. It's too big for 1 bite. The sushi at Da Che Lun Sushi 大車輪火車壽司 was straight up fish and rice and you'll have to add the wasabi.

2/5 Shrimp roll special; it was one tempura shrimp in an egg wrap filled with mayonnaise and lettuce. It was edible but I didn't like it. It's too big to eat in 1 bite so it will also collapse when eating

3/5 Ambiance is fun and lively. The train is a fun touch, but the actual table eating space is very cramped. The restaurant is very tiny so when you go pay the bill you have to dodge everything and everyone.

2/5 Value: It's surprisingly very expensive at tourist prices in the Ximen area. We spent about 700-800NT per person while you could get a better experience for about 300NT or less per person at Kura Sushi or Sushiro.

Da Che Lun Sushi 大車輪火車壽司 is located in the Ximending walking area and easily draws a crowd of tourists because of their food train. It seems unsanitary since the food is not covered and people are sitting very close to that train.

I would go to sushi express around the corner a few steps ahead than this place. It's overpriced and whole restaurant felt dirty to me. They have a dusty train circling the conveyer sushi bar and it's quite disgusting. On these trains they have fake plastic sushi so you would have to order the food that you want. That defeats the whole purpose on having a conveyer belt to deliver the sushi. The sashimi I ordered was still half frozen, chewy, and downright bad. The cooked food part of it was just, terrible, the mackerel I ordered was too salty and looked like it was still staring at me - they don't cut the heads off, why? Nothing tasted good and I felt like I was eating amidst a cloud of dust. Entirely gross. I decided to give it a chance but I was very disappointed, I got out of as quick as I can after every dish I tasted ended up being gross. I also ordered an uni hand roll that had a tiny piece of uni, the rest hard rice, it wasn't even sushi rice. Man, to top everything off I only ordered 3 dishes that ended up costing me $1000NT. Seriously, don't come here. I never leave reviews but I had to warn you guys about this place. Please go around the corner to sushi express instead. If I could give this place negative 1,000...

Salmon Sashimi (7 pieces) ($380): The salmon was icy and freshly cut into pieces. I highly recommend it for Salmon big fans and this dish is more of a reasonable price.

Cold Noodles ($138): The udon noodles had great texture and tasted even better after dipped into the sauce. The Japanese spice (Katsuobushi) also compliments the noodles well.

Furthermore, there is complimentary hot tea and soft drinks such as Cola, Apple Sidra, and Calpis cost $70 per glass.

In conclusion, in my opinion, like the majority of sushis such as sashimi, nigiri, gunkan are all overpriced except for makimono (Japanese handscroll). The restaurant is fairly crowded that you need to sit tightly with other people. Nevertheless, the exquisite and traditional decor makes you feel like you’re already in Japan and there are even trains models with Choo Choo sounds carrying but also displaying sushi on the conveyor belts. The service was also very efficient and great. The location is quite near MRT Ximen station exit 6, which is around 300 metres (984 ft). Overall, it’s a 9.5 out of 10!

FYI, there isn’t 10% service charge in your bill here and cards...

We came here for dinner as we saw other reviews saying it has an interesting concept for the conveyor belt type sushi. The lower floor has the counter sitting around a train moving around on a belt serving sushi but because we had 2 young kids with us, thankfully they have proper table sitting on the level 2 but one would have to climb several flights of steep staircase. So may not be good or easy to access by elderly or the disabled (did not see any lift to 2nd floor). Level 1 is quite cramp also so would be a bit difficult to walk through. There is a designated server lady on the 2nd floor and she quickly brought us to our table (one will have to take off your shoes at the entrance of the 2nd floor sitting as its lay out with tatami mat) but do mind that it is lower type of sitting so may not be easy for elderly to sit down or get up afterwards. The server was attentive and we quickly ordered our food and it was served piping hot and quickly. Portion wise was just ok. There is toilet on 2nd floor too and payment is on level1.

I was enticed to come in here after seeing the window display but sadly, I was severely disappointed in the food. If you do find yourself here, DON’T grab from the rotating train. Order from the menu if you must. The sushi on the train tasted (and frankly looked) like it has been sitting out for hours. The menu options aren’t much better, but at least it’s made fresh. The prawn salad looked pretty but under the prawn was a mountain of what tasted like sugar mixed in with mayonnaise. The actual prawn was cooked fine. I was hopeful for the five different types of fish egg dish, but the pork floss in the actual roll overtook all other flavors. Deluxe nigiri set (not pictured) was not bad. Staff is friendly. As English speakers, we were able to communicate with the sushi chef easily.
