Cao Cuisine — Restaurant in Xinyi District

My wife and I did some research on Omakase choices in Taipei and picked Cao Cuisine for its top ratings. We are glad about our decision and this became our best dining experience in Taipei for all the right reasons.

The food is absolutely awesome. We picked Cao’s top Omakase set and enjoyed 10 wonderful dishes. The chef (Xiao Chen) introduced the origin of the ingredients for all the dishes. Everything was super fresh and everything was cooked to its perfection. Based on my own experience, I’d say Cao’s food tastes better than some of the best restaurants in Tokyo.

The vide and environment was welcoming and humble. It feels exactly like an old-fashioned home-owned Japanese eatery with the right levels of music and chatting “noise”. The space is tight and cozy. It’s a perfect place for a small party, especially with a couple of your closest friends or your loved one.

The staff and service were super friendly. As a popular spot in a hot area, Cao was willing to hold our reservation for extra 30 minutes and called couple of times to confirm our arrival time, which was unbelievably professional. And our chef (Xiao Chen) went out his way to satisfy our requests and made our experience a memorable one.

Aug 2025 Definitely worth my SG flight to Taipei for Cao Cuisine. The boss and staff are so helpful, sincere and humble. They remember everyone’s food restrictions/preferences. I reserved through google. Make sure you have reservations as I saw many disappointed walk-in being turned away (the boss apologises) and cash only. The seating is really tight and limited, I think no more than 30. Also, they don’t push you to order drinks, full focus is on the umami food. Free flow tea and water.

Very good and attentive service from the staff, i was there with my wife and 3 kids. So they open their additional store front down the road. No one was there so we got the place all to ourselves.

We picked the 1580 for us and Salmon don for the kids. They loved it. We also really enjoyed ours. Fish was fresh and seafood also well made. Only thing is they have limited fish for the day so if you want a variety you better go early or book early.

Food was brought in covered with food wraps, which I think was well thought of since there is a short distance in between the shops fronts.

Overall, very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
