Lan Fang — Restaurant in Zhongshan District

I was looking for 椒辣麵 / 麻辣麵 (Jiāo là miàn / Má là miàn – Spicy Chili Noodles / Mala Noodles) around here and found this place. I really like the decor in the shop—it’s local but has a ramen-inspired style, and the space isn’t cramped, making it comfortable. The shop is very clean but still has the old-school local shop charm.

I went around 1 PM. Even as a solo diner, I got a table immediately, and the food came out quickly. The noodles were really good, with the perfect texture—not too firm or too soft. The broth was flavorful, and the spice level was the bomb 💣🌶️🔥🥵, especially after adding chili powder. I found another place that really knows how to make it spicy!

The filling was great—tender, chewy, and savory. However, the 紅油抄手 (hóng yóu chāo shǒu – Wontons in Chili Oil) wasn’t great, so I won’t order it next time. The pork had a slight odor, and the oil flavor wasn’t ideal—it was spicy but lacked the aromatic richness and was a bit sour. I prefer it saltier.

蘭芳小麵 is delicious. It takes more than 30 minutes to serve the food after ordering. When I went around 14:00 after lunch, it took more than 30 minutes to serve meals even when I was alone in this restaurant at that time. There are many chefs in the kitchen, but their skill is not good, so it takes a lot of time to serve noodles at most. I give 4 points for the taste, but only 0 points for the service because the meal serving time is desperately late. Considering these, the evaluation of the store itself is limited to 2 points. Fairly speaking, the noodles itself is quite chewy. It's not too hard or tender. The side dishes are tasty as well, the flavor is quite rich in spite of coldly served, which proves that the runner of the restaurant is confident on the culinary technique applied to all side- dishes. It's indeed standing-out. Nevertheless, I do agree with some of previous reviewers that it's overcharged, I even think it's ripped-off. Take a regular kind of noodles for instance, it's just noodles mixed with green onion and oily sauce, that's all, but you will be charged NT$ 50.
