I came to Men Biyori with fairly high expectations, not unreasonable, mind you, given its rather impressive online praise. One naturally assumes such acclaim is earned on the strength of the food itself. As it turns out, perhaps the overall experience charms some more than the flavours on the plate.
The setup is modern and efficient, and once seated, you’re greeted by an open kitchen, lively, if slightly aromatic. A bit more ventilation wouldn’t hurt, but one mustn’t quibble too much over atmosphere when the main concern is what arrives at the table.
Their signature Japanese-style spaghetti, made with dry pasta, came out al dente in theory, but leaned towards the firmer side, a texture that might please some, though I found it bordering on obstinate. The flavour was serviceable, though hardly memorable. I wouldn’t line up for it again. In Japan, such fare is rather commonplace, and one could, frankly, stumble into a better plate without much effort.
That said, the prices are reasonable, and I can see why some enjoy it. But for me, it was a touch underwhelming - a promising concept that didn’t quite make it to the...
Read moreFor the price that this restaurant offers it is an absurdly bad deal. I could easily make much nicer pasta than this at home for the price.
My premium 380 all comprehensive pasta came with seaweed, 5 pieces of squid (very small), and noodles. My girlfriend’s pasta was a bolognese that cost 300 NTD.
The food was by no means bad (I liked the al dente pasta, it was very well cooked. Unlike a lot of reviews say). BUT it should have been half the price or much more veggie heavy if the owners want to charge this much.
Their queue system also made very little sense. Put your name on a paper. Wait to order at a machine. Then sit down. Why bother having a host lol.
Also when I used their bathroom and told the host there was no soap she told me they don’t restock the soap. Also the bathroom was very dirty. What am I paying 800 dollars for 😂.
Don’t feel like there is any reason to visit this restaurant again. Especially after reading the owner’s lackluster responses to all the bad reviews. A very pathetic attempt at getting influencers to come to your...
Read moreLow key, humble and unassuming restaurant located just a few meters from Regent Hotel. It seems like a small team is able to run this operation and feed a large amount of guests. This was my first time here, I ordered the bacon and aspragus spaghetti. It is dried pasta that is broken in half, but they boil it al-dente and finish it in the pan. The pasta is very good actually. The flavors are strong, noodle is good, and there is some effort to presentation. I think the bacon + the peppery sauce was a little bit too salty for my taste. Maybe I will ask them if it's possible to ease up on the sodium if there's a next time. There is also dried parmesan and oregano on each table if you want even more. The upside is you are in and out very quickly with no frills. It seems like they attract a lot of business lunch clientele. Would visit again to try the Mentaiko, but in no rush. Ordered: Asparagus Bacon Paid: 300 NTD as of...
