2025 update: We’ve been celebrating birthdays at Robin’s Grill for a decade now. I must say this last visit tops the list. Robin’s grill continues to outdo itself. Food wise the menu was expanded to include more choices of Wagyu and USDA Prime for 2. Dessert wise this time it was handmade tiramisu and you can definitely taste the difference. However the icing on the cake this time is the exceptional service provided by Cindy and Jason. The attentive and yet not intrusive service is a delicate balance which they have certainly achieved. My vote for the best steakhouse in Taipei still goes to Robin’s Grill.
While there are other famous international steak houses with Taipei locations, Robin’s Grill at the Regent Grand Formosa is by far the best value and service. There’s a salad & appetizer as well as a dessert bar. The set menu has all the varieties, your staple USDA choices and some bone-in meats. The space itself went thru renovations abt a couple yrs back (pre-covid) to update its look. The service I must say is exceptional, it is never snobby like some other pricier places and they’re always attentive to your needs. The steak has always been consistent. One of my go-to spots for special occasions or when I...
Read moreThis review is for the steakhouse’s visit. Service is very attentive and with a touch of classic western steakhouse style. The venue is very clean with a very pristine and high quality salad /dessert bar.
The salad bar is kept very fresh, high quality, tidy and topped at ALL time literally.
Onto the meat. I ordered the porterhouse with meat from Twn. It’s very obvious that it’s been treated with baking soda or some sort of meat tenderizer. MSG is also being used on the meat, which should not be called for. Their meat treatment technique is similar to those taiwanese family steak restaurant chains’ but finished up with an open grill.
I have asked their staff about their marinading style but feedback given was that they use honey to approach that sort of bouncy, soft meat texture. The natural fiber’ish texture of the meat is gone. It’s like chewing on a chunk of meat mochi. For meats from Tw, which is supposed to be even more chewy, texture is not there at all.
I am hoping they only treat Taiwnese meat that way and leave US/Auss/ or NZ meats alone since I’d like to revisit after I’m sure they dont mess with other meats...
Read moreWe went to Robin’s with a group of friends and a baby in a stroller to celebrate two moms who have recently given birth to their babies. A friend had contacted the restaurant the day before to inform about the need to add a stroller space to our original booking. Once we arrived at the restaurant, Elaine the hostess began speaking to us in a very hostile and unwelcoming manner indicating we absolutely could not have the stroller at the table they had reserved for us.
During the entire conversation she appeared annoyed, accusational, rude and unprofessional. In the end another staff came by to take us to another table which finally ended the debacle.
While I understand there may have been some miscommunication with the booking, the way Elaine had handled the conversation was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional, particularly for a high end restaurant inside a prestigious hotel.
Food was amazing and the rest of the staff were friendly. It was a shame that one person can taint an otherwise great dining experience and a...
