I recently had the pleasure of dining at Amigos Mexican Bistro in Chang Mai, and I must say that despite any criticisms I may have, this establishment truly deserves a five-star rating for its exceptional offerings.
From the moment I entered, I was impressed by the consistent branding and fresh ambiance that permeated the restaurant. The authenticity of the food was evident in every dish, but the veggie nachos truly stole the show. The crunchy chips were perfectly complemented by the well-cooked veggies, a generous helping of salsa, sour cream, and cheese. The refried pinto beans were a delightful addition and added another layer of flavor to an already outstanding dish.
One unexpected delight was discovering Ginger ale on the menu, a rarity in Thailand. While it may not taste exactly like the Ginger ale I am accustomed to in the States, it had a unique homemade quality that added to the overall dining experience.
It's worth noting that I only discovered the fresh juice bar towards the end of my meal, which was unfortunately not prominently featured on the menu. This hidden gem offered a refreshing array of juices that would have undoubtedly added another layer of freshness to my dining experience.
As far as the negatives, I also had a burrito during my visit to Amigos Mexican Bistro. While the presentation was impressive, I was disappointed to find that the vegetables in the burrito were undercooked, and it lacked the usual accompaniments of salsa and sour cream. Fortunately, I had ordered a side of guacamole, which helped elevate the flavors. If the same attention to detail and delicious fixings found in the veggie nachos were incorporated into the burrito, it would have easily been a perfect 10 out of 10.
After finishing my meal, I unfortunately experienced some stomach discomfort. Upon reflection, I believe this may have been due to the presence of meat in the beans. Typically, I am very diligent about inquiring about ingredients, but this time, I neglected to do so. Given the price I paid and my subsequent observations, I am confident that the beans were prepared with meat, specifically pork fat. This traditional Tex-Mex cooking technique may not sit well with all diners, particularly vegetarians. I encourage fellow visitors to double-check if the beans contain meat and inquire about the availability of a vegetarian option, as some restaurants may offer both but require a specific request.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall dining experience at Amigos Mexican Bistro remains highly positive. The issues I encountered with the burrito and beans do not overshadow the exceptional quality of the other dishes and the welcoming atmosphere provided by the establishment. I would still recommend this restaurant for its delicious offerings and friendly service, with the caveat to be mindful of dietary preferences and ingredient inquiries when making menu selections.
Overall, Amigos Mexican Bistro in Chang Mai exceeded my expectations with its flavorful offerings, attentive service, and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine in Thailand.
In conclusion, the culinary experience at Amigos Mexican Bistro is one that I will not soon forget, and I look forward to returning to sample more of their delectable dishes...
Read moreThe Pan fried tacos that my friend ordered were amazing but I’m only giving a bad review because of the owner. At first, my food took too long (about 30 minutes, while my friend’s took around 15) and only after that I was made aware that the staff made my food wrong. Not only that but they tried to convince me to take it instead of what I ordered ( I requested beef and they wanted me to take the chicken). Once I got my food it was so spicy that I couldn’t finish one bite, this wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the menu.. I asked whether the dish was supposed to be spicy. The answer that I got from one of the waiters was that only the beef option was spicy but the other ones weren’t spicy at all (something I believed as my friend’s chicken was not spicy at all). If this was mentioned I wouldn’t have taken it, so I requested to change to the chicken option. At that time I’ve already been waiting for my food for about an hour and my friend had long finished her food… Once the second dish arrived I figured out it was the dish that was originally made wrong for me just reheated, which meant the dough was now burnt and breaking apart, already I was disappointed but relieved to get something to eat finally. However to my surprise the chicken was immensely spicy too, same level as spiciness as the beef! Now I wouldn’t put it past myself to not handle spice well- but my friend ordered the same chicken and it was not spicy at all, and let’s not forget I was told before that only the beef option was spicy but this was on that same level!! Hungry and tired I asked whether the dish could be removed from the bill (this of course after they wanted to charge me for two enchiladas instead of one), as I didn’t get to enjoy any of it. In response I was put on a call with the owner that wanted me to wait half an hour so she could call the tourist police after accusing me of not wanting to pay her staff and my bill, while making claims that I should have known and asked about the spice levels of the all the dishes in the menu. This of course is absurd as we would have happily paid for everything we did get to eat (meaning everything except the enchiladas mentioned), and in addition I did ask after getting the spicy beef if the other meat options were also spicy and were told they weren’t which is why I asked for a different kind of enchilada and not something else entirely like my friend’s food. All in all, very disappointing experience especially the owner’s behavior and we probably won’t be coming back no matter how good the other...
Read moreLong review quick summary, food was very, very bland but well made. They only serve water in plastic bottles and the dishes are so hot I’m surprised it didn’t damage the table. I ended up here because the place I wanted to go was closed for the holiday. That first photo is all you need to know about the food you’ll get here. If you think Tabasco belongs on Mexican food and find a Soft taco at Taco Bell is a bit to spicy you’ll probably love this place. It’s what I imagine a Mexican restaurant would be like in rural England. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out the rinse their ground beef. However the food was made well with decent ingredients so it just comes down to taste.
My big complaints. They only have plastic bottled water. Guys it’s 2023, what in the world are you thinking? Stop it, seriously. I wouldn’t order it thankfully the food wasn’t spicy enough to worry about it.
My second complaint, they brought the Nachos out on a stoneware bowl HOTTER THAN THE SURFACE OF THE SUN. I’d imagine people that like this food probably eat nachos with a fork. I do not, I eat them with my fingers like a normal person. Think about that, finger food served on dish so hot it was still making little sizzling noises. Oddly enough the refried beans were cold. I don’t know how you accomplished that. If you find for some reason this is the only way to make nachos maybe put them on some parchment paper and slide them onto a normal plate? Or I suggest actually putting hot ingredients on the nachos and maybe a few moments under the broiler to melt the cheese instead of baking it like a casserole.
Sorry guys, well made food and I get plenty of people prefer bland food so there’s a market there. Not offering glasses of water and serving food on an oven is unacceptable though....
