I found the cafe by chance while cycling around the canal. The big bear at the entrance cought my attention and I decided to stop to satisfy my craving for coffee.
I entered and loved the place instantly. It looked like somebody carefully choose and placed every single thing in the shop: the colourful sofa-chairs with high arm support, the plants, the teddy bears sitting here and there, the lights on the coffee machine, the wooden sink for the customers... that's just to name a few details I noticed.
I soon discovered there is a second floor, where you'll feel like you're in a wooden house on a tree. There again the attention to details was evident. I decided to sit downstairs as it was a chilly day.
I got an espresso, a cake and after a while another americano. I was very happy with all of them. The cake was lovely, not sugary at all, and tasted fresh; the coffee was very good as well, better than Aka ahma IMO. I spent there a couple of hours on my laptop and I found all the people working there to be extremely kind and welcoming. I think the Bear Hug Cafe is a great example of what makes Thailand special: a great taste for decor, for hospitality, and for food. Totally whole-heartedly...
Read moreGreat place for a good selection of western food that's more on the healthy side of the menu. I've lived in Chiang Mai for a little more than ten years now, but it's still nice to get a pancake or waffle, with a couple of choices for the sides. The drinks are really great as well. Not a huge selection of smoothie flavors, but they have one of the best, if not the best, selection of coffee's and they do amazing edible artistic creations on the top of most of the hot caffeinated drinks. The prices are also very reasonable for western food in Thailand. The staff are extremely nice and friendly as well. I highly recommend stopping in and at least trying one of the beautifully crafted drinks they offer. But they only do the different designs for the hot drinks. So don't order it iced, if you would like to check out the great...
Read moreWe went here a few times and mostly had good food. Our last and final visit yesterday really ruined our positive experiences of this place. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and asked for no sauce as we had done the previous few times we’d visited, and it came out saturated with mayonnaise - more sauce than other filling which was grim. When I approached the staff about this, they argued with me adamant we hadn’t asked this and said we needed to pay for a new one. They then said if we wanted it done again we’d have to wait 40 minutes as the kitchen was busy. Absolutely fine if that was true… food was coming out of there within 10 minutes of people ordering. They were just being spiteful. Basically, if there’s something wrong with your food here don’t expect them to be nice about...
