I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chai N Thai, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Chiang Mai, and I must say it was an extraordinary culinary experience. This South Indian restaurant not only exceeded my expectations but left an indelible mark on my taste buds.
The restaurant boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, with vibrant colors and traditional South Indian décor that transports you to the heart of India. The soft lighting creates an intimate setting, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The service at Chai N Thai is impeccable. The staff is not only knowledgeable about the menu but also attentive and courteous.
Chai N Thai is a haven for South Indian cuisine enthusiasts. The menu is an impressive array of authentic dishes, each bursting with flavor and prepared with precision. From the crispy dosas to the flavorful curries, every dish is a testament to the chef's mastery of South Indian culinary artistry. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients is evident in every bite. I tried Masala Dosa (Thin, crispy, and generously stuffed with a flavorful potato masala) The perfect restaurant makes a perfect Sambhar. Chai n Thai makes a perfect one. Chicken Chettinad: A spicy and aromatic chicken curry that is a true delight for the senses. It tastes like heaven with Kerala Malabari flaky Parotta. Coconut Rice: Fragrant and perfectly cooked, it complements the main dishes exceptionally well.
Considering the quality of the food, the portion sizes, and the overall dining experience, Chai N Thai offers excellent value for money. The prices are reasonable, especially given the authenticity and uniqueness of the South Indian flavors on offer.

Read moreWhen strolling around the trendy Nimman area in Chiang Mai, we stumbled upon a fantastic Indian restaurant named Chai n Thai. If you're craving authentic Indian dishes with lots of options for vegans, vegetarians, halal eaters, and even gluten-free food lovers, this is your spot! The restaurant itself is cozy and cheerful, perfect for a casual meal or celebrating something special with friends.
We kicked off our meal with the popular Indian snack, Pani Puri. These delightful little treats are crisp, golden shells shaped like tiny baskets. You fill them with soft potato stuffing and drizzle with the special sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy sauces. Bite down, and you get an exciting burst of flavor and juiciness—it's a delicious adventure in every bite.
Next came a vegetable curry, rich and full of aromatic spices but not too heavy. The veggies were so tender, practically melting with each bite, and the curry sauce perfectly seasoned—bold yet never greasy. Paired with fresh-baked naan bread, this combo was simply irresistible, leaving us craving more with every mouthful.
And who could resist crispy spring rolls? They arrived hot, golden, and beautifully crispy, yet refreshingly non-greasy. The generous filling of shredded vegetables paired perfectly with the restaurant’s special sweet-and-sour dipping sauce. Every bite was tangy, crunchy, and addictive. We genuinely couldn’t stop after just one!
Overall, Chai n Thai won our hearts. Not only was every dish delicious, but we also loved how inclusive their menu is, catering effortlessly to all dietary preferences. Plus, the staff was super friendly, always smiling, making us feel welcome throughout our visit. Located right in the heart of Nimman, this restaurant is an ideal stop after sightseeing or shopping around Chiang Mai. If you're in the area, don't miss Chai n Thai—trust us, you'll leave feeling happily satisfied and already planning...
Read moreLast week, my family and I, a North Indian family with high hopes, decided to visit Chai "N" Thai @Nimman in Chiang Mai, inspired by the promising Google reviews. Our experience, however, turned out to be quite a mixed bag.
We visited in the evening and immediately noticed that while the place had a pleasant ambiance, it lacked parking facilities—a small inconvenience but worth mentioning. Once seated, we started with the Veg Cutlet, which was hands down the best item we had. It was flavorful and left us initially optimistic about the meal ahead.
However, the main courses left much to be desired. We ordered Dal Makhani, Paneer Butter Masala, and Masala Dosa—all staples of North Indian cuisine. Unfortunately, all these dishes turned out to be quite bland and average. We expressed our concern about the lack of flavor to the staff, and their solution was to add a large amount of chili powder. This made the food excessively spicy and unpalatable, forcing us to leave most of it uneaten.
Despite the disappointing food, the service was exceptional. The owner, who was friendly and attentive, made rounds to check if the food was to everyone’s satisfaction, which was a nice touch. However, good service alone can't make up for the subpar culinary experience.
For the price of around 1000 baht, the meal was not worth it. Considering the hype and the reputation of a pan Indian restaurant, we expected much more. There are definitely better options around Chiang Mai for decent Indian food that offer better value for money.
In summary, Chai "N" Thai @Nimman has a nice ambiance and excellent service, but the food was a letdown. I hope they take this feedback constructively and work on improving the flavor profile of their dishes to match the expectations set by their reputation. Overall...
