7 Senses Gelato — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

We are visiting Chiang Mai from Southern Thailand where we reside permanently, and have been pursuing a multi-year journey to discover Thailand's best gelato and ice cream.

We may have found it: 12 scoops of 12 distinct flavors later, we can comfortably and confidently share that the gelato Stefano and his small team of artisanal sorcerers are crafting is the best we've enjoyed in more than a decade of searching in Thailand.

This is premium gelato, not 10 THB factory-produced coconut ice you purchase from a random vendor cycling past you. A must visit for anyone who enjoys gelato, is frustrated by how difficult finding it in Thailand can be, and loves food...

That feeling when you walk into the gelato place twenty minutes before they open, but they invite you in anyway and give you a big scoop of ricotta fig gelato.

This gelato was awesome. And the ”small” cup with one scoop was gigantic. And the owners were just wonderfully gracious and welcoming, a husband and wife team exemplifying both italian artisanal mastery and thai hospitality, all while taking care of their children at the next table over. Some day, those kids are going to grow up and look back with such pride at what their parents created, launching a business in the middle of a global shutdown, and nurturing it into such a gem.

I came back a couple days later and there was a team of great staff, happy to let me try every flavor before I settled on the right one . . . or, um, three. I'm not going to tell you that my photo only shows half the spoons I used for tasting, but, well, I might have actually used more.

1 we had 1 raspberry ( FANTASTIC)and 1 hazelnut ( ok)

I really wanted to go back to have raspberry again. We went back

We were wanting on line there were 2 girls, one a the cash and the other one a the cones. There were a big family ordering so the cash girl was standing there. Doing nothing. We looked at her, she looked back and loomed on the floor, nothing and at one points i was going to ask her to make our 2 cones, since it was like 4-5 minutes we wanted, but a guy came in and ask her for a cone, and she did it!!

Why on earth wasn’t she offering us to help us. 🤦🏻

There wasn’t raspberry! I was soooo sad! I had strawberry but it wasn’t as good, it was ok. I thought it tasted a bit like jam, chemical. Mixed berry was better but again not as good as raspberry! 😔
