Surprisingly good food, quick service, all around a nice place. Came with bracingly mediocre expectations for an Italian restaurant in Chiang Mai. Everything exceeded. Food: We had garlic bread and cheese-stuffed potato croquettes for appetizers, margherita pizza and alfredo gnocchi for mains, panna cotta and lava cake for dessert, and house wines for drinks. Garlic bread was more than the mediocre stuff you usually get (it was decently interesting), croquettes were okay. Pizza was definitely much higher above the expectations, and my partner didn't love the gnocchi but I fell in love with the creamy creaminess. Panna cotta was decent, lava cake was so much better than any lava cakes I've had in most restaurants. God. House wines (white and red) were especially good for the cheap price. Service: we were never waiting for something to come. It also wasn't too busy on this Valentine's Day but come on, how much busier will it get. So many options to choose from on the menu, and given our own random selections and consequent success, I bet many other items here are good. Atmosphere: Nice outdoor seating. Nice decorations. Nice bossa nova music. What...
Read moreI have to say, this was one of the worst steaks I've ever had. I ordered a medium-rare T-bone steak for 750฿ (about $23), but what I got was a dry, well-done piece of meat that tasted nothing like steak and was very tough. The baked potato on the side was bland, and the spinach was over-chopped and not at all enjoyable. The caprese salad we ordered was also disappointing—the mozzarella cheese was hard, and both its smell and flavor were off. After mentioning it to the staff, they kindly replaced it with a Caesar salad, but that tasted more like a sour vinegar salad than a Caesar.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the meal. While the staff were friendly and kind, the food was terrible. It felt like a complete waste of money, and I left feeling very unhappy. I would rate the food zero...
Read moreMany restaurant owners complain that there are only a few customers. If that's really, then I should, if I were restaurant owner, do everything to make your customer happy and deliver the best of the best.
Apparently, the owner of Girasole, doesn't care. He served a pizza of very moderate quality: bad quality ham: you cannot call that prosciutto! And moreover, why use mushrooms from a can? That is soooo disappointing!
The service of this place is okay. Not bad and not extremely friendly.
Atmosphere should be better with more customers. But they cannot help that.
It is ashame: this place has a perfect location in the old city. I am sure, when they focus more on quality, the results should increase...
