Tourist Standard. Someone recommended this restaurant for the big portions, so I gave it a go. I was informed clams, my first choice, was out of stock. So I chose tuna which was also out of stock. I settled for mussels with ginger and fried octopus. The octopus looked alright but it turned out to be 90 percent batter and ten percent tentacles. Admittedly the batter was quite tasty but the tiny portion of octopus was a huge disappointment. The mussels, again a meager portion, were cooked well and tasted okay- just a pity there were only 8 or 9 of them. The food prices were okay, but were poor value given the portion size. Alcohol is on the expensive side here too - some of the highest restaurant prices I’ve seen in a Phuket restaurant, for big bottles of local beer. I classify this restaurant as purely tourist standard - providing the least possible for the most money. But I’m giving it three stars because generally this establishment has good reviews, so I may have caught them on an off-night. And the service was efficient...
Read moreWas there yesterday and disappointed. Small portions (noodles). Ordered seafood yellow noodles, pork yellow noodles, glass noodles meal and three pizzas. The yellow noodles were undercooked. The seafood mix consisted of two prawns, two pieces of octopus and two mussels. The pork meal barely had pork in it as well. The glass noodles was tasty. The pizza took forever to come and the staff ended up not taking one order, had to wait another 20 minutes to get a meal for a kid. The two pizzas (seafood and prawn) had capsicum and onion topping which wasn't listed on the menu hence a fussy eater was disappointed. Chicken and garlic pizza was nice. Hence, two stars for two "nice" meals out of six. The staff are rude and not smiling, apart from the gentleman at the front. It's hot and insufficient ventilation to make dining pleasant. We won't come back, sorry! The staff should go next door to Two chefs to learn work ethics and how to...
Read moreFood Market Kata Restaurant was the first restaurant that I visited during my first trip to Phuket and Thailand overall. The restaurant had a modest and homey vibe. The dining area was an open-air space but it still had electric fans. The hanging lights and lanterns brightened up and cheered up the place.
My friends and I had dinner on a cool Wednesday night. I had the Pad Thai Glass Noodles Chicken (THB80) and Thai Iced Tea (THB70). The Pad Thai was tolerably spicy. The sauce was ample and even. The chicken was tender and plenty. The bean sprouts were fresh and crunchy. The Thai Iced Tea was simply Thai tea with milk but without sugar. It still tasted great taste though! I just didn’t expect an unsweetened beverage.
Overall, dinner was a good experience. :) The meals I had were good...
