Delicious tapas but too bad about the service, put me off from coming here again.
My sis and I visited this joint on Saturday night after a walk around Thong Lor looking for dessert. We were attracted to the small, yet cozy venue promising tapas and churros and a late closing time (we came in around 10pm). As soon as we walked in, we were given a table upstairs and served by a male waitstaff (looks kinda Indian) and young, female local. They seem a bit harried and kept looking at their watches.
After putting in our first order, we were told that the kitchen closed at 11pm. We then put in more orders of tapas but everytime we put in an order, we were reminded about the kitchen closing soon. Fine, we kinda figured they wanted to leave asap but we saw two more Western couples coming in after we were almost done with our tapas and not sure if they kept pestering them about the kitchen hours like they did to us.
Gave my credit card to the male server and after he gave it back to me with the receipt, not a word of thanks was given or an acknowledgement of appreciation. He just left in a huff.
In fact, we felt that we were intruding on their precious closing time even though other patrons were enjoying their drinks and tapas. Why promote the closing time of 2am if you are not going to honor it? As we left, only the local kitchen staff said goodbye to us, not the owner (who was busy talking to one of the couples), the male server or the female server.
On to the food: the bechamel croquettes and salmon and brie torta was amazing. The churros were a ripoff as they gave only four peices. It’s too bad the service sucks because I would have gladly returned to try the...
Read moreWe are back again for another great meal at El Tapeo. Service is incredible and food is amazing, same as last time we were here. The red sangria was refreshing. Dont waste time with the glass. Go for the jug. We had the peppers to start with. An absolute must. Mussels graten. Beautiful and cheesy. We also ordered the open sandwiches that were great sharing items. We had jamon x2 and the caramelized onions and Camembert. Delicious. For mains they brought out a battered and fried ribeye steak topped with Edam and blue cheese with grilled peppers. This was the biggest surprise of the night. Wonderful. If you like chicken fried steak, this takes it to a whole new level. Well worth the order. We finished off with the seafood paella. Not my favorite. Will try the vegetable and chicken next time. For dessert I had the lemon cava sorbet. It was a a great palette cleanser. Would definitely do that one again… but only after trying the coffee liqueur dessert. That looked great. All in all an incredible night of dining. Look forward to heading back and trying even more items from the menu that we...
Read moreFood quality is below average. The presentation of the dishes at this place is decent, but the food itself is really terrible, and it's not cheap either. Except for the first roasted pepper, which was okay, the rest of the dishes were really poorly done. The beef was dry and tough, and the seafood paella was so dry it formed a crust and tasted awful! The octopus served with mashed potatoes had no flavor at all, except for the mashed potatoes, and the octopus was just sprinkled with a bit of chili powder. It was dry and tasteless.
It is too pricey comparing to the quality. However, the staffs are friendly and enthusiastic. We like the decorations and the vibes. But we didn't have a good meal. And it was unbelivable that we had to pay nearly ฿4000 for this quality. After that we had to eat ice cream in McDonald to feel a little bit better. Not angry but extremely disappointed.
Overall, this was the most disappointing Spanish food I've had in...
