I really enjoyed my meal at Golden State Vegan. It’s on the 3rd floor of a building above a marijuana store, and also shares a space with a cool bar. The restaurant has a nice aesthetic, featuring a lot of cool vinyl records and colorfully painted walls.
I loved the food. Although it took a little while for it to come out (it was a busy night), everything was super fresh and delicious. The kale Caesar salad was one of the best salads I’ve ever had. It was perfectly crunchy and the dressing was fabulous.
The fire island roll (a California roll with habanero) was very yummy, and having habanero on sushi was a unique and yummy combination. The wasabi spider hand roll was a lot larger than I expected, but it was so good. The staff was friendly enough to offer me a side of extra habanero sauce when I asked. I dipped the hand rolls in it and it was amazing!
The wait staff was great. My waitress was a very nice Burmese girl with overalls (wish I could recall her name). She was friendly and chatted with me for a bit. Overall I had an awesome experience—and I’m not even vegan! I’d recommend this spot to anyone, and especially newcomers to sushi. They make it very palatable for people who might have apprehensions.
Update: Came back in today. Had a good meal and tried a couple different items, including the potato chorizo rosemary tacos and the spicy Szechuan tofu. Everything was really tasty, and I liked the kale Caesar just as much as the first time. The woman working there was super nice! She taught me some fun Thai phrases. I hope to come back with some...
Read moreDO NOT PASS THIS PLACE UP. Everything from the vibes, the FOOD, and all the glorious sunlight coming in the windows this is a wonderful place to have a meal and drink. I appreciate any vegan restaurant for the no meat factor but the ones that put so much care into their presentation and flavors deserve all the love. You scan a QR code to view the menu and everything looked appetizing, it was so hard to decide. I went with the yuzu lemon tea and the crab cake tartar. Everything was good and the crab cake tartar was incredible. It even came with tasty fries and salad! As a vegetarian I loved being able to eat anything on the menu but even if you’re not vegan or vegetarian it is definitely worth a visit. I highly recommend and will be back again! Note: It is on the 3rd floor and you can take an elevator up. UPDATE: I came back the next day because as I said, everything looked appetizing so it was very hard to decide what to get. So I came back to try more things :) I had the Winter Lemon tea SO GOOD, Unagi Eggplant Sushi Tacos SO GOOD, and the King Crab Paradise Sushi Mountain SO GOOD. Seriously, I’m not even joking the food here is phenomenal please...
Read moreThis is my second time at Golden State Vegan.
I came last week with the Vegan Meetup group and liked it so much I came back again this week.
They have sushi here and other various Japanese dishes. They’re a little pricey but the taste is worth it.
I ordered the Red and Green Dragon Roll, Garlic Fried Rice and two pieces of sushi from their Signature Nigiri Set.
For my dad, I ordered the Yaki Udon.
Everything was very good. They were also very catering to my allergies and made sure there was no oil in my food. They even made the garlic fried rice without any oil.
(Their desserts look amazing but they are made with vegan butter, so I couldn’t order any.)
From 4-7pm they have buy 2 get 1 free for drinks, so I got the strawberry sour 🍓, coconut mojito 🥥 and lychee martini. These were also very good!
