Highly recommended for those who want to eat excellent ramen around Sukhumvit Road between Asoke and Phrom Phong.
I had the Shio Ramen (290 Thai baht). This soup has an impressive broth with a very strong shellfish flavor. The moment you first take a sip of the soup, you can feel the sweetness and richness unique to shellfish very strongly. This soup has a unique taste that is different from any other soup. The sweetness of the shellfish broth is so strong that those expecting a typical salt ramen may be confused.
The noodles are straight and medium thin. They are a little soft boiled, but I think they go well with the soup. The balance between the two is exquisite. However, when I ate it, the noodles were tangled and difficult to eat. The noodles were soft and easy to break, so I could not enjoy the throat feeling of the noodles made from whole wheat flour.
Next, the chashu pork. The chashu was very tender yet well seasoned and gave the impression of being very well researched.
I think the ramen as a whole is very well put together. The balance of flavors is perfect, and the harmony between each ingredient and the broth make it a very tasty dish. As the restaurant says, it is "a bowl where you can feel the sea".
Personally, I did not need any side dishes, and dare I say it, I thought the soup would be better served with white rice to enjoy the ramen to the end.
From an overall perspective, the price is not cheap, but the ramen is very tasty, which is understandable for the area. I think it is worth a visit to...
Read moreRamen taste average. We ordered Tori Paitan, Shoyu Ramen, and Tsukumen; the best one was Tori Paitan. The chicken broth soup of Tori Paitan is quite good while Shoyu soup is too salty and Tsukumen soup was too salty and thick. The portion of the food is quite big, we didn’t finish everything not sure because of the taste or too much of the noodles they offered. If you come more than 2 people, I’d recommend to order 1 less. The utensils came with a very very big spoon and chopsticks, which the spoon is quite interesting to see. The worst part is the queueing process. We went to the store and got the 1st queue while the staff said it will take just a couple of minutes wait. When we went in, one table was asking for bill already. There were couple of people came later than us, and the staff let them in for counter seating and ordering before clearing the table for us 3 people. It took them 15 minutes to clean 2 tables at the same time and while we got queue number 1, the staff let the other group that came from the other side of the store seated first, it’s totally unprofessional and probably very rude for Japanese manner. I would say there are many other ramen places around Phrom Phong area where they have more service attention and taste similar or better. Overall, one try and will not...
Read moreI revisited Mensho Tokyo for the first time after its renovation and ordered the Classic Tori Paitan and Ume Shio.
Ume Shio: The first sip of the broth was intensely salty, with a distinct shellfish flavor that stood out. While the chicken-based broth was rich, the saltiness overpowered it, making it difficult for me to finish. The noodles, ordered firm, were excellent—thin with a great texture. The chashu pork was tender, flavorful, and had a distinct smoky aroma. However, the smoked egg I ordered as an add-on overpowered the soup when eaten together.
Classic Tori Paitan: The broth was extremely creamy with a noticeable milky taste, which made it too rich for me to finish. The noodles, ordered firm, were thick and wavy, offering a pleasant chewiness. The chashu pork was, again, soft, flavorful, and carried a strong smoky aroma.
The open kitchen setup made the restaurant quite smoky, likely due to insufficient ventilation. The strong smell inside the restaurant can cling to hair and clothing.
I visited at 11:10 AM, and the place was already filling up. Fortunately, the food didn’t take long to arrive.
Overall, while the textures and quality of the ingredients were great, the flavors, particularly the broth, were too intense...
