I was staying in a nearby hotel for a few days, so I visited Aree seafood several times. The expansive seating area thoroughly impressed me, and the menu was very diverse (although the pricing was weird). However, a few weird things happened.

One day, after I'd already been a couple of times already, I sat down intending to just grab a fruit drink because it was hot. Two wait staff hovered over my table while I flipped through the menu to find the drinks. They didn't understand my request to leave me be while I looked through the menu. After they stood there, staring at me dumbly, I stormed off in frustration and tried to find somewhere else to eat. I'm sure they thought this was rude, and I felt bad about it later.

I came back for dinner on the same day, intending to give them another chance. It was busier by that point in the day and they had many staff on. In contrast to earlier in the day when I couldn't get the staff to leave me alone, this time I struggled to flag one down. Also, they made my not-too-spicy papaya salad quite spicy. The poor English skills of the wait staff was again revealed once I raised this issue. I asked to return the meal and instead order a mixed fruit plate. They gave me a less spicy version of the same salad AND a mixed fruit plate. I didn't object this time because I was sick of raising issues and having them not understand.

A very weird business. Food and space in abundance, but they need to hire staff with better English and train them in...

I wasn't expecting it to be good, I expected this place to cater only to tourists and Western tastes, but since we were up late and it was nearby we decided to try it. And I'm glad we did! The salt baked tilapia was succulent and tender – cooked to perfection – and the grilled river prawns were delicious. The goong cher nam pla also very good (but could've been spicier). The seafood dipping sauce was spicy and authentic. The atmosphere is welcoming and not overbearing. The searing area is covered (which was useful as it was raining) and there are many fans so it was cool inside. The tables are well spaced. There's a good selection of drinks. The servers are all very friendly and good with children, the waitress was smiling and making faces at our daughter entertaining her while we ate. We felt very comfortable there with our 1 year old. We're planning to go back again. we were so impressed. And it's a bonus that it's open very late so if you're jet lagged and can't sleep it's perfect. It's not super cheap, but also not super expensive. There's a huge variety on the menu. I think you can be ripped off if you buy the super expensive stuff, but it's easy to find something in the middle on the menu. And honestly for the location it's a pretty...

If you’re a seafood lover looking for a place that truly delivers in taste, freshness, and atmosphere, this seafood restaurant is nothing short of amazing. From the very first bite to the last, every dish we tried was an explosion of flavor and quality. The seafood is incredibly fresh, clearly sourced with care – the kind that melts in your mouth and leaves you craving more.

One of the standout dishes was the grilled river prawns – perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of natural sweetness. The chili-lime dipping sauce paired with it was the perfect balance of spicy, tangy, and savory. We also had the steamed crab with glass noodles, which was aromatic and rich, soaked in garlic and soy flavors that went deep into every strand of noodle.

The ambiance of the restaurant is just as impressive as the food. Whether you’re dining indoors or outside by the sea (or river, depending on the location), the vibe is relaxed yet elegant – perfect for romantic dinners, family gatherings, or a fun night out with friends. Service was excellent – staff were attentive without being intrusive, and happy to make recommendations.

All in all, this place is a seafood paradise that I would gladly return to again and again. Five...

Aree Seafood is a 24-hour seafood restaurant, and we dropped in around midnight looking for a late-night feed. The place was buzzing — a mix of expats, western tourists having drinks, and a few locals. There’s a whole strip of vendors inside offering everything from sashimi to grilled seafood, but we stuck with the main Thai food stall. The standout dish for me was definitely the blood cockles — you crack them open yourself, pull out the meat, and dip it into this spicy green sauce that was absolute fire. The other dishes were solid but nothing to rave about. The rice noodles weren’t really my thing texture-wise, but they had decent flavour. We also got a seafood curry with satay powder, which was pretty good and worked well with the rice. The papaya salad was fresh and light — a good balance to everything else. The chicken dish had a pack full of flavour, not bad. The total came to about 70-100 AUD with drinks, which feels a bit pricey for Thai street food, but still way cheaper than what you’d pay for the same spread in Melbourne. Overall, not mind-blowing but a great late-night option if you’re in the area.

This was one of my favourite places to have come by in Bangkok. Wasn’t expecting to pass by here while I was walking so tried it for lunch and was really happy with my experience. The place is huge, and really like the setup with the open air front, the kind of mess hall table layout, and the stalls around the perimeter that are the stations for making the different types of food they offer on their menu. They placed a big fan facing our table to cool us down from the heat once we sat down. There’s even a sink for washing your hands. Had the crab fried rice, crab omelette, and the mixed fruits for dessert. The crab fried rice was great - rice was flavoured and cooked well. There were generous pieces of white crab meat. The crab omelette is pretty thin, and had less crab in it, but paired well with the fried rice. The mixed fruits were nice and ripe, and were a nice dessert to finish off the meal. Getting all of this with a beer for a really affordable price in a space like this is a no-brainer.
