Perched on the rooftop of Novotel Sukhumvit 4, Red Square offers a simple, no-frills alfresco bar experience right beside the pool. While it won’t dazzle you with luxurious decor or breathtaking skyline views, it makes up for its modest setup with genuinely warm service and a relaxed vibe.
Ambience & Setup: Minimalist and Intimate
The bar has a small, unpretentious layout with just a handful of tables and basic seating—think poolside loungers and simple stools. The decor is understated, with red accents giving it a subtle identity, but don’t expect a glamorous rooftop affair. It feels more like a casual hotel pool bar than a destination spot, which works if you’re looking for something low-key.
The Heat Factor: Bangkok’s Humidity is the Real Challenge
Since the space is completely open-air, the tropical Bangkok weather takes center stage. Even in the evening, the lack of shade or cooling mist fans means you’ll likely be fanning yourself between sips. If you can tolerate the heat (or visit during cooler months), it’s manageable—but this is definitely not the place for a long, leisurely lounge session in peak humidity.
The Highlight: Friendly, Smiling Service
What truly elevates the experience is the exceptionally welcoming staff. The servers are attentive, cheerful, and quick to offer recommendations, making you feel right at home despite the barebones setting. Their positivity adds a much-needed charm to what would otherwise be a forgettable hotel bar.
Drinks & Value: Standard Hotel Pricing, Solid Execution
The drink menu sticks to the basics—classic cocktails, beers, and spirits, with no real surprises but decent execution. Prices are typical for a hotel bar (slightly higher than street-side spots, but not outrageous). Happy hour deals might sweeten the deal if available.
Who Should Visit?
✔ Hotel guests who want a convenient drink without leaving the premises. ✔ Those who appreciate genuine, friendly service over fancy decor. ✔ Visitors who don’t mind a short, sweaty drink in an open-air setting.
Final Verdict: A Simple Spot Saved by Smiles
Red Square won’t compete with Bangkok’s sky-high luxury rooftop bars, but it doesn’t try to. Instead, it offers a humble, uncomplicated escape with staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. If you’re staying at Novotel and want a casual sundowner with good vibes (and can handle the heat), it’s worth a quick stop—just don’t expect to...
Read moreLet's be honest, it's just another roof top bar. Really nothing fancy. It is called red square and I expect a Russian style with a huge choice of rare vodka. NOTHING! The decoration is even Chinese, nothing to do with the red square from Russia. Chairs are from wood, hard and uncomfy. Inside they have three lounge seats, made from plastic and you sweat on it like hell.....
The pool can not really help, coz there is no shade and you are fully exposed to the sun during the day....
Check the bar and pool area of the Compass Hotel at Prom Phong instead. Or the new roof top bar Spectre at the Hyatt Hotel at Soi 13. Comfy swinging hanger beds under the sun shade, cabana style.....
If you really want to impress your date, then it's Vertigo at Banyan Tree, Sky bar at LeBua or Above Eleven at Fraser Suites.....
And don't forget Octave at Marriott Thonglor 57 and Speak Easy at the Muse Hotel or the Roof Top at Marriott Hotel...

If you're 13 and want to listen to the spice girls, this is where you want to go! They have 25 floors but when you’re surrounded by high rises that have over 80 floors, it doesn’t feel like anything special.
If you're looking for fine dining, I would highly recommend the breeze. My wife and I were accommodated with last minute reservations and dined on the 62nd floor there. It’s not a night club atmosphere, unlike here.
We watched fireworks, had a 6 course meal and had a MUCH nicer view that over looked the river. We also received complementary dishes from the head chef at the breeze.
If you're looking for fine dining, I would avoid this place. If you want to hear BSB and like dive bar’s. This...
