Worried that their first restaurant would be crowded, I came to their branch in Siam Icon instead. Taking a boat from Wat Pho, which cost me THB 30.
It's past lunchtime already. Still, there was a waiting list. Three names before mine. But, not that long to wait. The menu was simple. I decided to give a try to Dried Grinding Squid, Classic Pad Thai Sen-Chan and Pad Thai Sen-Chan with Shrimp Oil wrapped in egg.
Dried Grinding Squid was basically similar to dried squid snacks you can find in grocery stores. It came with brown sauce, I did not recognize what it was made from. The sauce tasted sweet, while the squid was a bit savory, almost plain. Texture wise, a bit chewy.
The difference between the two pad thais is the classic one had light flavor and looked pale white, unlike most pad thais which were brownish. While the one with shrimp oil appeared pale red in color and had a taste of seafood. The crushed peanuts were not mixed with the noodles like you might find in most pad thais. It should be safe for those who are allergic to peanuts.
Both of the pad thais were sweet. At the beginning, the taste was good. But, gradually it became unpleasant. I suggest adding chillies for a bit of spiciness. They serve chillies on the side.
As for the drink, I went for Thai Milk Tea which I surely recommend. It was creamy, not overly sweet. I heard they are famous for their orange juice. The price was quite high for a 500-ml-bottle, around THB 219 at that time. You should ask before ordering because the price can be different...
Read moreWe visited this place for it's famous Pad Thai. We ordered the Classic Pad Thai and the Superb Pad Thai which is the one wrapped inside a fried egg. The taste was wonderful. But, tbh, we had Pad Thai few times during our trip, including the one sold in a food court, and they all taste almost the same. One difference was only, the shrimps in Thipsamai were more fresh and juicy. The Crab Dumpling also very tasty, full of crab meat!!
The Thai Tea was sadly not the best I had. It was way too sweet for me, idk if you can request the less sugar one.
About the price, well, if you come to Thailand for good food with cheap price, imo, this is not the place you want to go for a Pad Thai. It's a little bit pricey compared to soooo many other Pad Thai restaurants. But for the quality of the ingredients and for the atmosphere, it was all worthed.
This restaurant located inside the Icon Siam has a beautiful interior, and a cozy vibe. We waited around 10 minutes before we got a table. They provide instructions on how to eat your Pad Thai. There was sugar on the table, which we didn't find the reason why. 😅 Later we know that some people like to sprinkle sugar on their Pad Thai. Probably will try to do that...

Thipsamai ทิพย์สมัย ผัดไทยประตูผี 📍 Khlong Ton Sai, Khlong San, Bangkok 10600, Thailand
🍜 Food wise: Well stir-fried noodles and prawns, wrapped nicely in with a thin layer of egg, garnished with some shredded chilli and some coriander, with peanuts by the side and some chives, bean sprouts and banana blossoms on another plate. The method of eating is stated in a leaflet, but long story short, add to taste.
Without adding anything, the noodles tasted sweet only and needed something to go with. There is fish sauce, chilli flakes, sugar, and some preserved chopped chilli on each table that one can add to the noodles. Once the ingredients are added, it tastes of the good and savoury pad thai, sweet, spicy, hint of fish sauce, crunchy and simply delicious. Just don’t take too long to decide on what condiments to add though, eat when it is hot!
✨ Ambience wise: Pretty setting for a restaurant, with water features, and rattan structures surrounding it, as though one is in a village enjoying the meal.
🤵🏻 Service-wise: Staff did their job.
💵 Price wise: 169 Baht
Summary: Pretty expensive, worth the try...
