Beach Grill — Restaurant in Patong

We came here on a hungry hub booking for the seafood tower deal 1450 THB net with 2 glasses of wine. We were told the HH deal wasn't really a deal at all because it was the same price as the restaurant...but just marketed as a deal (so we didn't order the tower) Food was really slow (more than 30mins wait - without warning of the wait) even before seats were full. Food was very oily but somehow dry at the same time (pork collar was swimming in oil, and burger bun was shiny with oil), taste was fine - when given feedback, instead of accepting it, Manager(?) just gave excuses...wore mask below nose. Staff were a little more polite and helpful. Dessert peach crumble was tasty but it was served on a plate with proper ice cream and everything but with a teaspoon (not suitable for desserts swerved on dinner plates, these should come with dessert spoon or fork or both). Didn't help order drinks from the Rum Shack (bar by the beach, which was something we were able to do across all restaurants at the resort l).

For a Marriott brand hotel restaurant, this was very disappointing. Contrasting service level when compared to Merchant's...

We came here for dinner without a reservation and was given a table near the back of the restaurant which was nice.

Service is quite slow as we had to wait a while after we sat down to order and had to flag a staff down to order our drinks/food. The two fresh juices we ordered were indeed not fresh and tasted like it was out of a carton. Perhaps they did not mean freshly squeezed?

We ordered 1/2 a grilled chicken as well as the grilled octopus. The grilled octopus was served served lukewarm. I was very surprised as expected it to have come off the grill. I spoke to Matt who seemed to be the manager on duty. He advised that this dish is served like this and that it’s completely sterilised. He then proceeded to explain how it was cooked but I am still a little confused why the dish was lukewarm.

The chicken on the other hand was well cooked, served piping hot and wedges which accompanied it were tasty.

Unfortunately not a great experience for us (we were resort guests). We got seated at the special table that has a fee for couples but they said this was on them which we thought was really nice. 30 mins after being seated we had to ask for someone to take our order and to give us water. They then apologized and shared that because we were at the special table (which we didnt even request) they had essentially forgotten about us. They were very apologetic but the service didnt get much better from there. Our experience with the service was so bad that it tarnished the other nice aspects of the restaurants for us (food, ambiance). We were surprised because as we were observing, all other tables around us had way more attentive service. I hate writing reviews like this because I know how hard hospitality staff work and our waiter worked hard to make it up to us, but we will be avoiding this restaurant for the rest of our stay...
