Was staying at the hotel so went for the D.O.C.G. Family Set (for 2-3pax) from Hungry Hub promotion 950B net. Pretty stuffed to the brim. Great service and food. Particularly value for money as the whole set was a full 3 course meal. The Anti-pasti was the most impressive with array of cheeses and cold cuts and good cheese. Perhaps 3 pastas and a pizza was overdoing it a bit, especially for 2 people; perhaps 2 pastas and a large salad? We ordered an additional side salad to balance it out. Dessert was less impressive especially when half the choices were what we had earlier the day before for afternoon tea at the hotel. Would've been good if there were proper authentic Italian desserts besides 1 tiramisu. Food tasted quite good overall, great pizza and pasta and a very interesting choice to serve pesto with the bread basket. Service was great and staff were very accommodating of requests such as switching out cream sauce. Disappointed the Gnochi were out both attempts we tried to attend. Tortellini we had made aglio olio instead of cream sauce, the spiciness was abit over powering while otherwise quite bland on taste. Penne was good and so was the Spaghetti Marinara (though prawns weren't that fresh). Great pizza dough, made right there in the...
Read moreMy family & I had a lovely dinner last night at D.O.C.G. We checked in late and it was raining so we decided to eat at the hotel. Walked in without any reservation and luckily there's a small table left for us. We order tagliatelle bolognese, lobster linguine and pizza ham & mushroom. Everything was yummy. We had 2 glasses of Malbec & 1 Pinot Noir. They were very generous in pouring! Love the wine. For dessert, we ended with tiramisu. Incredibly tasty yet not sinful lol! To our surprise, they gave us complimentary limoncello. Oh lord, it was the most potent and delicious I ever had. James, the staff came over and he was very knowledgeable and very attentive. We had a good chat. Everything was perfect except the 3 Korean couples who were watching football from their phones, were loud and rude. Hubby was disgusted with the lady sitting with one leg on the chair. So, will we be...
Read moreLocated in Marriott Merlin Beach, we had our breakfast buffet here. I've reviewed multiple Marriott hotels for their buffets, so this is a relative comparison.
The upside is that there are a lot of tropical fresh fruits available, such as mangoes, passion fruits, rambutans, which are generally not available in other hotels. Variety of food is acceptable, although lacking in dim-sums.
The downside is that as a 5-star hotel, they do not even have fresh fruit juice. All juices provided were readymade concentrate dispensable juices, which was a downer. In addition, there were many flies in the air-conditioned eating area. While this is a resort and flies are unavoidable, there's just too many here. I've been to other resorts where the flies situation was much better controlled.
Overall 3/5 based on the hotel ratings and...
