Date: 29 September 2023 We recently had the pleasure of dining at Ta Khai, the exquisite Thai restaurant located within the Rosewood Phuket. From the moment we stepped foot into the establishment, we could tell we were in for a fantastic meal. Ta Khai not only delivered on its promise of exceptional Thai cuisine, but it also exceeded our expectations in terms of ambiance, service, and overall dining experience.
First and foremost, let's talk about the food. The menu at Ta Khai offers a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, and I had the opportunity to sample several of their signature creations. The betel leaves with shrimps was a delightful appetizer that perfectly balanced the freshness of the leaves with the succulent flavors of the shrimp. The yellow crab curry was nothing short of a revelation, with its rich and aromatic blend of spices that left me craving for more.
The crab paste with rice crackers provided a wonderful contrast of textures, with the crispy crackers complementing the smooth and flavorful crab paste. The beef salad (Michelin guide rated) was a harmonious medley of tender beef slices, fresh herbs, and zesty dressing, creating a burst of flavors in every bite. The tom yum soup with chicken was a comforting and aromatic bowl of goodness.
To end the meal on a sweet note, we indulged in the black glutinous rice with coconut ice cream. The combination of the slightly sticky rice and the creamy coconut ice cream was a match made in dessert heaven, providing a satisfying conclusion to my dining experience at Ta Khai.
Beyond the exceptional cooking and delicate flavors, Ta Khai impressed me with its stunning restaurant design. The ambiance was elegant and sophisticated, with a touch of Thai-inspired decor that added to the overall charm of the space. The restaurant's attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the beautifully set tables to the warm and inviting lighting. You can also choose to pick your freshly caught seafood in the pond at the back.
Service at Ta Khai was truly second to none. The staff members were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they served. They were more than happy to provide recommendations, answer any questions I had, and ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
We left Ta Khai satisfied and a desire to return in the future. If you're looking for an unforgettable Thai dining experience, Ta Khai should be at the top...
Read moreTa Khai, is a Thai Restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel, in Phuket. I came here to try one of their tasting menus and because it is ranked #14 on the Top 25 Restaurant list in Phuket (I now see why, read on). On line booking is the only way to secure a reservation. After arriving here, you are shuttled to the restaurant via buggy (their term for golf cart). What is unique here is that the ride takes you through so much greenery and you get the impression that you could be in a mini forest. All the rooms are also scattered amongst this wilderness, that clearly bonds closely with nature. When I finally arrived at the restaurant, I must confess, I was in awe. The restaurant kind of emerges as an oasis from the forest, to present an impressive arrangement of seating and food preparation stations. What was most remarkable is that their sea food catch is live, in observable ground tanks nurtured by sea water.
There were two tasting menus and they suggested the more costlier one. That was my plan anyway, but I must say, I have never been to an eatery that recommends the cheaper option. LOL. See my pictures for the tasting menu (for completeness, I have also included photos of their Ala Carte Menu). There were many elements that ruined my evening here. I was sitting outside and the humid heat was challenging. I had to ask for several cold towels and they were not willing to accommodate me inside an air conditioned enclosure, in spite of me repeatedly asking and being a solo diner. On top of that, they were clearly in a hurry to finish my tasting meal. That was very unsettling. Two appetizers came together in one bowl. The soup next and then, like four dishes came next. I asked why everything was brought all at once. Their reply was that because it was the main dish. Finally, the dessert. How can you savor every dish, for its temperature, texture, flavor and complexity if they arrive together? The appetizers were the best. Taste wise, I thought there was an overdose of lime in several other dishes. The overall food lacked uniqueness and oomph. Nothing much to write home about. One more thing, they charged me 270 Bhat ($7.50) for a glass of water and half a refill (no bottle on the table). Really? When it was all said and done, my check was around 2600 Bhat ($72). Money that could have clearly been better spent,...
Read moreWe had read many good reviews of Ta Khai restaurant so we decided to have a meal here.
Ta khai is a thai restaurant within Rosewood resort on Tri Trang beach. The restaurant can be accessed from the main road instead of going through the resort.
The ambience is fabulous. The restaurant is set in a beautiful garden on the beach.
It is open only for dinner till midnight with the last order being at 10pm.
We reached a few minutes before 10pm and the staff informed us that they were closed. When we pointed out that it wasn't 10pm as yet they allowed us in.
It was very obvious that the staff was ready to leave as they served us our appetizers and main course at the same time.
The table was so small that all the dishes that we ordered wouldn't fit on the table so we asked for the main course to be placed on the adjacent bar.
We ordered crab cakes and chicken wrapped in pandan leaves as starters. Both dishes lacked seasoning.
When we started on our appetizers the staff was busy closing for the night so there was a lot of bustling going on around us.
They basically left us to our own devices.
When we had finished our appetizers we had to call the staff to bring our now cold main course from the bar to our table.
We had ordered crab curry in coconut milk with rice for our main course as we had eaten it at Raya restaurant in Phuket old town the day before and we had thoroughly enjoyed it.
We were terribly let down by this version of crab curry.
All in all it was quite a dismal...
