Hern Coffee and Bistro — Restaurant in Patong

Visited in October 2024. Thailand. Phuket. We happened upon this restaurant while walking the beach. It stood out as the most presentable cafe among the others nearby. The interior design is a testament to meticulous planning, creating a welcoming and chic atmosphere. While the cafe boasts a wide selection of coffee and brewing methods, we opted for dinner on this occasion.

Food:

The menu is diverse, offering breakfast options, snacks, and a range of traditional dinner selections. We decided on the seafood platter, designed for 3-4 people. The platter featured lobster, crab, prawns, fish, fried calamari, and an abundance of grilled vegetables. While the lobster was of moderate size, it was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, though a touch more seasoning would have enhanced the experience. The prawns were remarkably soft, the crab, though delicious, presented a slight challenge to peel, and the fish, unfortunately, came across as slightly dry. Overall, the platter was enjoyable, though I would recommend ordering individual seafood dishes in the future for a more tailored experience. The pineapple fried rice with seafood was a standout, featuring perfectly cooked, fluffy rice and professional seafood preparation. The fish and chips were impressive, with a delicate, crispy batter that enveloped tender, juicy fish. We also ventured into the dessert menu, finding pleasure in the blueberry cheesecake. However, the lemon tiramisu was a disappointment. Lacksing flavor and an undefined texture, it resembled a strange, unappetizing soufflé.

Service:

The service was attentive and efficient. Our server was helpful in guiding us through the menu and recommending the seafood platter. The kitchen worked with commendable speed, and the overall atmosphere was warm and friendly.

Conclusion: Hern Coffee and Bistro is a commendable dining destination suitable for any occasion. The breakfast menu is particularly tempting, and the dinner selection offers a good mix of options. Coming from Melbourne, this is undoubtedly the best restaurant we've been to for breakfast. We came 2 days in a row (will be coming again tomorrow) and ordered different meals each time.

The presentation of the food was immaculate and a notch above the cafes found in Melbourne. Portion sizes were above average and sufficient to satisfy even the hungriest. Food itself was delicious. I had the Egg white omelette yesterday and the Chicken burger today. Both were extremely tasty. They've also got Thai food if you're keen on something local.

Menu also includes chocolate whey protein with milk or water as part of their healthy options. Espresso took me back to Melbourne and is the ideal start to the day.

The service was on point and welcoming. On our second day here, one of the staff said "Welcome back" which was a really nice touch.

There is a buzzer on each table that can be pressed when needing assistance so there aren't staff coming too early or taking too long to come for your order.

Ambience and decor are fantastic. Spacious place with a somewhat blocked view of the beach due to the tuk tuks and cars. Upper level seating allows you to see the ocean. For an open restaurant, the temperature was very well maintained. Not too hot and not too cool.

All in all, would highly recommend! Haven't been here for lunch or dinner but would definitely add this to your list of restaurants to visit...
