Sam's Steaks and Grill — Restaurant in Patong

I ate here the last night of my honeymoon in Thailand. We didn't realize it was a restaurant within a hotel, but it certainly didn't matter. It was a high-end experience, and the perfect end to a lovely holiday. Both me and my husband are gluten-free, and I can't express the disbelief when they brought us gluten-free rolls for our table. Not only is that hard to find in Thailand, but the rolls themselves were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I'm Canadian and have lots of access to gluten-free bread, and I still wish I could get rolls as delicious as the ones there! Anyway, in terms of the full dining experience, the food was impeccable. Everything was delicious, and my husband and I were delighted to find them serving us amuse bouches and other unexpected surprises in between courses. The staff were professional, polite and flawless in their execution. In fact, I was delighted to have more of a 'western' restaurant experience here, where the staff check-in with you and offer a very pleasant experience. Anyone visiting Thailand will know that, typically, the way servers interact with you in Thailand is very different than a North American experience. They don't tend to check-in with you and you usually have to try to get their attention when you can. There isn't anything inherently wrong with that, but it does make you begin to 'miss' the customer service style from back home. At Sam's, it was very much the opposite - we felt very well cared for, as the server checked in with us occasionally, and would ask us if we wanted anything etc... We felt like valued customers and tipping was much more natural with this style of service. It's a more expensive restaurant experience for Thailand's typical prices, almost comparable to a fine dining restaurant in the Greater Toronto area in Canada (though still a touch less expensive). Looking for an European experience to close off my last night in phuket, I found Sam’s steak and grill. I had to travel for half an hour but it was worth more than I could’ve imagined.

Upon entry I was treated as a king. The servers follow European etiquette for wine serving and the wine per glass selection was exquisite. Finding a restaurant that has great wines per glass so that I can drink a different wine per dish was very hard in this region.

I chose the recommended menu with the delicious steak tartare as a starter and was surprised with a palate cleaner in between for the main course.

The ambrosan amarone red wine from northern Italy should’ve served with napkins because the explosion of flavors would make any wine snob cry. Needless to mention it paired perfectly with the exquisite pork chops.

The orange cheese cake dessert paired again perfectly with the dessert wine paying homage to the chef who knows how to deliver an memorable experience.

I was served again with an unexpected little bite at the end almost suggesting that the crew thought I was an anonymous michelin guide inspector. I wish I was but if I would have been, this place would have made it to the michelin recommend list.

My only improvement point would be to keep more time in between dishes. So that I have a wine...

What can be said about Sams Steak & Grill other than this restaurant is without a doubt the best in Phuket. Pure Sophistication in every aspect. The very stylish interior creates a warm and relaxing ambiance which makes for one of the best dining experiences. To compliment this the service from Khun Chai and his team is absolutely exceptional in every aspect. All staff full of smiles, very attentive and go above and beyond to ensure that all guests have the best dining experience possible. The food, well it speaks for itself. Only the freshest ingredients prepared and cooked to perfection then plated with care and diligence. Very pleasing to the eyes. My wife and I have dined here on previous occasions and again were very impressed in every aspect. What truly stood out and as return loyal guests to the Holiday Inn Resort is that the restaurant Manager Khun Chai obviously did his homework and recognised and appreciated our loyalty towards the Hotel where he provided my wife with a little complimentary item which made us feel important.
