I REALLY wanted to like this place. The family that runs it was very nice but bottom line the food doesn’t deserve anywhere near 4.5 stars. I ate there twice. The first time I sat down and they handed me a menu of Thai food. I thought I must’ve accidentally sat down in the restaurant next-door as the sign said it was an Indian restaurant. I wasn’t too worried about it and went ahead and ordered a glass noodles dish which was way too sweet and had no spice. When I asked for hot sauce, they said they don’t add spice to normally spicy dishes because the tourists don’t like it. Maybe ask how spicy the customer wants it?
I went back the next day specifically to order vegetarian kebab that they had a photo of on their sign outside. The photo showed the handmade lentil and flour kebab that would’ve been cooked in the tandoori like oven. This was also in the Indian menu this time, which I made a point of asking for in the Indian restaurant. What they brought out was some deep fried NOT kabob patties made from some unidentifiable chopped substance. It was soooo greasy when I tried to cut a bite with my fork oil literally oozed out of it like a sponge. It tasted bland and was a far cry from the idea of a handmade kabob cooked in a tandoori. There are several more intriguing vegetarian Indian restaurants very nearby. I would recommend going to...
Read moreShahi Kitchen Indian Restaurant is an absolute Gem: the food rivals Indian Cuisine I've had at 5 star Restaurants and hotels like Taj Group of Hotel, Delhi Darbaar, Moti Mahal and even the kitchen in Laalghar Palace in Bikaner India. The food is right up there. The setting is basic but clean and Aircon. Gentle romantic Indian music plays- a welcome contrast from everything fast in Phuket. Just 2 minutes from Grand Mercure Patong Hotel and 2 minutes from Parong Beach. The Owner, an elegant and poised woman and her son, Shaam, render service excellence. The young man, Shaam, was most attentive and helpful. We had: prawn tikka starter, Lamb Dhahiwala curry, Chicken Korma curry, chicken Tandoori and Lachcha Parathas and Garlic naan. Everything was well spiced and so tasty! This is the best Indian Food I've eaten outside of India (forgive me Mom). The Restaurant offer strictly halaal food. I tried a Lemon Mint juice mocktail- on point! All in all a wonderful experience! The place looks understated and unassuming, less fancy than some places in that road but the...
Read moreComing to Thailand from London for 3 weeks, I had a craving for Indian food (a big cuisine in its own right in London). Here at Shahi Kitchen, I wasn’t disappointed. It was an absolute flavoursome meal. Ordering their Jeera Aloo, Chicken Madras with boiled rice - It was divine. And ending it with a Masala Tea rounded it off to perfection. Here, the staff are welcoming, accommodating to tastes and requests, with the most efficient and polite service you could wish for. Located in a side road just off the beach front, it will delight anyone looking for an authentic taste of India, so much so, I have made repeat visits during my stay in Patong Beach, Highly recommended. Thank you...
