I have been visiting this pub since nearly a decade. Though off and on. Since I do not live here in Thailand, I come here only on consulting visits and because I love Irish beers I tend to visit this pub rather often.
Since the last 4 days I had visited this pub as many times and Keng (one of the servers at the bar) knows it.
There is no doubt that this pub has an undertone of Racism which is expected in almost all establishments run by Americans or British persons particularly in Asian countries as it tends to become a "Refuge" for "their kind" in a foreign land. I understand that and I do give them that much of a leash, knowing well that they suffer from certain fundamental issues when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
However, today, because of the rain, there were hardly 8 or 9 persons in the pub with over 5 servers around.
Just my luck I was the only "non white" person in the pub. First of all it took a great bit of time for them to even take my beer request and then provided me beer glass that had more foam than beer. They corrected it grudgingly once i pointed it out.
Later as I wanted to request for some food, I could not reach out to any of the servers since they had their backs towards me constantly looking at the "more acceptable" customers.
Now here is the kicker, none of the servers were European or American, they were all Thigh people. Which means that they have been trained specifically to look out for certain people at the expense of others.
What I cannot understand is do I pay anything less than the more acceptable?
This percolation of discriminatory behavior is not something paying customers expect these days (by the way I have met the owner in one of my previous visits).
If you do have preference please do make it clear through a sign board the way it was done in the...
Read moreIntended to meet friends for an evening drink before eating and arranged to meet in a pub on 2 nd Road ,on arrival the pub in question was packed,,noisy and dank with smoke. Moved on to find Dicey Reilly’s and what a welcome. This Irish Bar and Restaurant is bright clean with a great view of the world passing by on 2 nd Road, so impressed by the welcome and service by Yui and Pond we remained for Dinner. The food here is of a high standard and prepared and served well. Live music was tasteful and just loud enough that we could still carry on a conversation. I enjoyed my visit to Dicey Reillys and will return. Being Irish I may be a...
