Disappointed and Outraged by Discriminatory Policy
I recently had an incredibly disheartening experience at Sailor. Upon arriving, my friends and I (we’re European nationals, but Indian origin) were denied entry. The reason? We were explicitly told that the restaurant only caters to white patrons (pointing to their faces they said - your face colour not allow, only white colour allow). They said it was for WHITE PEOPLE only, including their Thai “girlfriends”.
In 2024, it’s shocking and deeply upsetting to encounter this kind of blatant discrimination. Businesses should be places where everyone feels welcome, regardless of race or background. Discriminatory practices like this are not only morally wrong but also illegal.
I’m sharing this to raise awareness and encourage others to think twice before supporting establishments that exclude people based on something as fundamental as their identity. We all deserve to dine, relax, and enjoy without fear of prejudice.
Let’s hold businesses accountable and continue to stand against discrimination in all its forms.
The upside of us being denied entry at Sailor’s is that we went to an absolute local place just opposite Sailor (3-4 tables). They were excellent with their food quality and service. We ended up going there everyday for lunch. They don’t sell booze, but allowed us to buy some from 7-11 and drink there. Their food prices were absolutely rock-bottom and not tourist prices (8 of us ate and our bill...
Read moreSailor Bar is easily my favourite food/drink establishment in Pattaya. Stay at Flipper Lodge (20 metres away!) across the lane and enjoy the beach and bar scene. Perfect.
Food is delicious, although I've only ever ordered simple Thai food at Sailor Bar and it's kinda hard to get that wrong if you're a Thai chef! Friends have ordered western options and enjoyed it.
Cocktails are fantastic. Cheap and strong. Always well presented with a chunk of tropical fruit on top.
I love the atmosphere. There's often live music playing. Never too loud though. The bar is completely open (no windows or doors) so there's a beach/party atmosphere vibe. There's always something happening there. Sport on TV, or just people-watching. Staff are fun and interact well with each other. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be working there. I can't wait to get back to Sailor Bar when I'm planning my next Pattaya trip. It's always there waiting for me.
I choose to ignore reviews about management policies regarding ethnic groups. That's the bar's business. We shouldn't try to put 2024 western values and laws onto another country, and another culture's perspective. Pattaya has hundreds -- if not thousands -- of bars and restaurants. Simply go somewhere else if admission policies bother you. Spend your money at better places which you feel are deserving of...
Read moreThis restaurant has to have a note on the entrance “beware of the angry dog”. Me, my spouse, and our 4 little kids have been coming to this restaurant every day at night. We liked it. One day we came for breakfast and ordered some stuff. The waitress brought not the same which was on the menu photo. It was a tiny plate and vegetables were missing. I nicely asked to bring what I ordered. The waitress brought vegetables and another lady named Bee came up and started yelling, screaming and jumping and insulting us in front of our kids and other customers. She called us nasty! I asked to call the manager, she refused to do so. She even requested to pay upfront! We finished our meal and left. In a week we came back hoping it will be different crew. As soon as we walked in the same lady came up and started yelling and kicking us out saying the manager does not let us in. I asked to talk to the manager again and she refused to call him. It is ridiculous. We were regular customers, always been leaving tips and we can’t stand this insult and attitude. This person should not in any way work with people, instead, she needs to go to anger manager...
