We’ve been visiting Madras Darbar in Pattaya for years now. Living in Bangkok, every trip to Pattaya would include a comforting meal here — the food always gave a homely feeling, and the service used to be warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, this recent visit has completely changed my perception. From a consistent 5-star experience, I now feel compelled to give just 1 star. The attitude of the staff has noticeably deteriorated — there was a lack of courtesy, unwillingness to help, and an overall rude tone throughout the interaction. Issues we faced: • We usually order paneer pakora, and in previous visits, the manager had specifically told us to ask for special paneer pakora. This time, the staff flatly said such an item doesn't exist and refused to even check with the chef. Their tone was dismissive and unprofessional — simply saying, "We only serve what's on the menu." • When we asked to have the bill issued under our company name (a very basic request in most restaurants), the staff refused. The excuse was that we should have mentioned it in advance — a statement that made little sense, especially since it wasn’t communicated as a policy before. During payment, when we insisted again due to technical issues with the card machine, the staff just ignored our request and didn’t accommodate us at all. Beyond the poor service, even the food quality seems to have dropped compared to our past visits. It’s disappointing to see a place we once genuinely liked lose its charm due to careless service and declining standards. Sadly, this might have been our last visit to Madras Darbar.
As an alternative, the next day, we tried Saravaana Bhavan, near Madras Darbar and...
Read moreMadras Darbar in Pattaya is a popular spot for Indian food lovers, and my recent visit left me with a mixed yet satisfying experience. The restaurant offers a cozy ambience with a warm, inviting vibe, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. The service was prompt and attentive, adding to the overall positive dining experience.
I tried a few dishes, starting with the Prawn Pepper Fry (spicy). The prawns were well-cooked, succulent, and packed with a bold peppery flavor that lived up to its "spicy" claim. Next, the Paneer Kulcha was soft, fluffy, and generously stuffed with paneer, making it a perfect accompaniment to the main dishes. The Paneer Do Pyaza was rich and creamy, with a generous amount of paneer cubes and a well-balanced onion-based gravy. The Butter Chappathi was soft and buttery, just as it should be, and complemented the gravies perfectly.
While the food was undeniably tasty, I couldn’t help but notice that the prices were on the higher side compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. That said, the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience somewhat justify the cost.
Madras Darbar offers delicious Indian cuisine with good service and a pleasant ambience. If you’re willing to splurge a little for a satisfying meal, this place is worth a visit. However, for those on a budget, there are more affordable...
Read moreDecided to go to this place today for lunch. Ordered vegetable manchurian along with some more items on the menu. After a long wait we got the food on the table. On tasting the manchurian we could make out that the manchurian balls were not cooked properly from inside and were tasting gooey and lumpy. When we spoke very politely about this to the restaurant staff we were snubbed and very bluntly told by the person that it was not raw, it is all boiled already and that if it was raw then it would have been inedible... Apparently this person is also the owner of the restaurant. This makes me wonder that how the owner of so many chain of restaurants can have such little knowledge about food and not know the difference between a raw manchurian ball and a cooked one. Attaching some pics for reference. This place used to be my favourite go to place for Indian food in Pattaya but after today's experience and the kind of hospitality shown by the owner himself have decided that would never visit this place again even if it is the last place left in Pattaya serving...
