🍽️ AVA Patisserie @ InterContinental Sukhumvit 59 – Elegant Ambience, Underwhelming Breakfast

From the grand hotel entrance to the moment we were seated, our first impression of AVA Patisserie for breakfast was promising. The spacious dining area and attentive service created a refined atmosphere that lived up to the InterContinental name.

We were presented with both an à la carte menu and access to the breakfast buffet, which gave us a mix of options. However, due to what felt like space constraints, the cooked food spread was quite limited and frankly, not as interesting or impressive as what we’ve experienced at other InterContinental properties or hotels in the same tier.

The pastry and bread selection was more extensive and beautifully presented, but even so, we found the options lacking in uniqueness or standout flavours — nothing that truly wowed us for breakfast.

In summary, AVA Patisserie offers a lovely setting, but the breakfast experience left us wanting more in terms of food variety and quality. Suitable for a quiet, refined start to the day — but not quite the breakfast...

The staff during breakfast were completely inattentive. After waiting patiently for a while, no one came to take my order, not even for a cup of coffee. Eventually, I approached a nearby staff (K.Chanunthorn), but she simply told me to wait for more. Frustrated, I went to the egg station myself to place an order. This was, without a doubt, the worst breakfast experience I’ve had at any InterContinental worldwide. The service felt more like a 3-star hotel cafeteria, and the food quality was just as disappointing. I left after sampling only a few items, as it was clear no one cared about my experience at the restaurant.

Dinner at AVA was slightly better. I received good service from Khun Tassanarak and another nice lady, but the food quality remained subpar, especially considering the high prices. I tried both international and Thai dishes on two different dinners, and both times I felt disappointed.

Only good thing is the beautiful interior design of the restaurant with Sukhumvit...

I was served by Por from dinner to the next day’s breakfast. He’s knowledgeable about foods ,wines and alcohols as well as he makes a very good cocktail. I informed him exactly what I preferred before making a drink, and he came out with an excellent drink that had explanations and a story behind it. It made me feel like I was drinking fine cocktails. I definitely recommend this place to people who like to relax and enjoy a quiet drink away from the busy Sukhumvit road.

Without the excellent morning team like Net, Noon, Talew, and MK, my dining experience here wouldn’t have reached my expectations. I’ll definitely be back next time I visit Thailand.

Another great thing about my stay here was the fantastic Banky and Parn from the concierge. They arranged many bookings for me and were friendly and nice. They also shared their local dining experiences with me.

Overall, I’ll definitely be coming back...
