Expose this restaurant for charging double portions at double prices, treating customers like fools.

This restaurant is near my hotel. A colleague mentioned that many locals order from here, so I decided to give it a try. The taste was average, and the price, given the environment and location, was slightly on the higher side (for example, the pad kra pao next door is 60 THB, while here it's 70 THB with smaller portions).

Before I discovered they had a Thai-only menu, I thought the prices and taste were reasonable—mainly because it was close and convenient. Although the portions were small, it was fine for me as I’m on a diet. However, every time I saw the larger portions served to Thai customers at the next table, I thought to myself, "Maybe they ordered a bigger portion."

Until yesterday. When we went for a meal, there was a Thai-only menu on the table—no pictures, no English, no Chinese. Items like fried eggs were 10 THB, and pad kra pao was 50 THB. I can’t remember the rest. Since I speak Thai, I didn’t bother asking the server for the picture menu and just wrote down my order based on the Thai menu.

While looking at the Thai menu, I told my friend, “These prices are 5–15 THB cheaper than the picture menu we’ve been using. Let’s see which prices they charge us.”

When it came time to pay, they charged me according to the more expensive picture menu.

I asked the owner, “Why do the two menus have different prices?” The owner replied, “Because it costs us more to make the English and picture menus, so the prices are higher on those.”

I continued, “But I ordered from the Thai menu. Why are you charging me based on the picture menu?” The owner tried to justify it: “Ah, because foreigners have bigger appetites and eat more than Thai people. Thai people usually eat very little, so we make the portions bigger for foreigners and charge them a little more.”

Me: “But my portion wasn’t bigger than the table next to me.” The owner, unable to justify further, said: “Other restaurants do this too. It’s common for foreigners to pay more than locals. If you think it’s unfair, next time write the prices next to your order, so I’ll know to charge you based on the Thai menu prices. Will that work for you?”

I was speechless. Normally, I don’t like complaining about such things, but this blatant discrimination is unacceptable. Because I speak Thai, I always compare the bilingual menus whenever I dine out to see if foreigners are being overcharged. I’ve eaten at many places, and this is the first time I’ve encountered this. Never going back to this...

Traditional Thai food at excellent prices. This is no luxury restaurant like the ones you can find close by but a classic eatery with a varied menu, great flavor and kind service. At least one of the employees speaks an excellent English. I even saw a free wifi sign, didn't try it but there is probably one. And last but not least there is a friendly chonky cat going...

Delicious food with the sweetest hosts! The food was authentic, a great price, and amazing. We ordered the seafood fried in garlic, chicken Thai basil, and morning glory in garlic. All dishes were wonderful, we felt so welcomed, and will try to stop by again before we leave! Don’t miss this!
