I had hoped that this bar strikes as one-of-a-kind experience, and it was - not in a positive light, sadly. The expectations were high from the reviews and neat shell of a presentation.
Arrival to this place was a funny experience with the entrance. I'd have to describe the entrance as pretentious when I found myself having to sort of wrestle a shelf just to get in - and this shelf was not light. Their attempt to curate a 'secret bar' maybe a little too laborous and not leisure-forward.
The drinks weren't bad; but they're unremarkable and not worth their very above average prices. While the team behind the ambience and decor is passionate and put in quite an effort to ensure the aesthetic is spot on; yet, without good drinks the entire experience ultimately was dragged down.
The staff were attentive enough and provided sound recommendations, but I also found them to be pushy and wants to 'sell' quickly on the drinks. Funny music selections and turned a bit too loud. Afterall, the spirit of speakeasy is falsely embraced if not worn only in appearance and style at this place. This comes off nothing more than a hidden gem wannabe with fake discreet vibes and expensive subpar drinks- and some of the city's funniest...
Read moreStumbled upon Philtration thanks to the Step by Step the series, and it turned out to be a hidden gem. The entrance, tucked away in an underground spot within an old building, provides a speak-easy experience. The tunnel entrance, filled with smooth jazz and vintage decor, sets a captivating mood. Upon sliding a shelving unit, you unveil the entrance to the speak-easy bar.
Inside, Philtration offers various spaces, from cozy sitting areas to a small dance floor and a live music setup. During my weekday visit, the place was quiet, creating a serene atmosphere. While there was no live music, the jazzy background music and overall ambiance were fantastic. I tried their mocktails and cocktails, accompanied by complimentary snacks. Additional snacks are available for order, though they are standard options. The cocktails were impressive, and there's a variety of wine and other alcoholic beverages. On weekends, expect a livelier scene with more live music. The staff, for the most part, is friendly and speaks decent English, although there might be a few who seem less engaged.
Overall, it offers a unique and atmospheric experience...
Read moreI went to the musical night. The show is great. And all the small staffs are very nice.
However, everything is super pricey as if this is in Singapore, not Bangkok. One cocktail is almost 500. The entrance fee was 250 for standing, 400 for seating in the corner which can see nothing and 650 for good seating. I paid 400 thb+7% for the corner seat. When I walked over to the stage to see, I got scolded badly by one of the big guy said "People here paid more than you. You are blocking them". It actually ruins the whole mood given I also paid 1000+ baht per pax for the night. Worse, if you dont want people to stand, why bother having standing tickets then?
I went back just to take VDO. I also did ask the lady who sat there to just take VDO for 5 second, the same guy came back with the same quote again.
When I was about to leave after check and paid, the same guy also block my way out and told my friend we havent paid for cocktail.
Too bad a good bar and a good vibe got...
