Pera Thai — Restaurant in Beyoğlu

Its so unfortunate that I feel the need to review this place so low, because the food was actually really really good! Unfortunately the service was SO bad that I would never go back. We ordered 3 starters and 2 mains and it took us almost 2 hours to get 4 out of 5 of our dishes, as each dish came out on its own about every half an hour. Everyone else in our section also appeared to be waiting an excessive amount of time for their food and nobody was happy. Its obvious that the kitchen couldn't keep up with how busy it was but there is no excuse for waiting that long for food OR for someone's order to come out one dish at a time like that. It's just poor management at that point. By the time we got our second main after waiting about 45 mins between dishes we were pretty mad and asked for the bill. The server didn't even realize we only got 4 of our dishes because they were delivering everyone's food 1 dish at a time. I was also angry to have to have a service charge added to my bill when the service was SO bad, but we were over the whole night and just paid and left as there were other tables complaining to the manager and I refused to spend another second waiting for someone to help us. I am only giving 2 stars because the food was so tasty. They would be better to serve half the restaurant well then flip the tables because they cannot handle a full restaurant efficiently. Let me start of by saying that the service was wonderful but the food was not. Went with a large group and we ordered a bunch of dishes all spicy and only one dish was spicy. The spring rolls and the buns that accompanied them were dry and lacked flavor. The papaya salad was one of the worst I've ever had and despite asking for it to be spicy it was lacked any sort of spice. It also had an awful after taste that reminded me of vomit. The fish sauce that they use in the papaya salad was low quality and reeked (I'm Vietnamese and we are no stranger to fish sauce but whatever they're using is terrible) the pad Thai, pad kee mao had no flavors and the pad kee mao is suppose to be served with wide rice noodles and wasn't. The other dishes were so boring that I have forgotten what they were. We also ordered the fish which was suppose to be accompanied with green mangos but they used green apples instead which did not compliment the dish and actually ruined the dish for me. All in all I've tried this restaurants a few times now and I have to say it's consistently mediocre and unauthentic but hey at least it's consistent. Btw if you like your food spicy bring your...

Very good food! Just like my sister in law's food, who is from Thailand and worked at a restaurant for years. If you don't like spicy, let the waiter know because spicy means very spicy when it comes to Thai food.

Wait service was very professional. As is typical in Turkey, the initial service is a bit slow. They also had two massive groups that slowed the service down just a little bit. The amount of people was probably more than normal for a weekday.

Definitely a five star rating. A few small complaints: The red chicken curry that my wife had could have had veggies. It is just chicken and the amazing Curry sauce. My delicious minced chicken with basil was on the small side as far as portion size. Other plates are larger i noticed. And lastly, when we ordered we had to order rice as an extra charge separately. It was a bit misleading, at least for us.

Altogether a very enjoyable anniversary dinner that came out to 185 lira. Two meals with water to drink. I highly recommend the food quality as i have had plenty of authentic Thai in my life. And some thai that is not...
