My partner and I weren't sure what to expect when we stumbled across this little gem which was tucked away down an alley off a busy street. But in short, great service, good food and a for very affordable price. Particularly if you compare it to restaurants along the water, it was a bargain!
As soon as we walked in, we felt like we were in a place where locals go. We had been searching for something that felt a little more authentic and didn't have a large price tag attached, so we were excited to check it out.
The restaurant allows you two choices, dine in or a 'self serve' cafeteria experience. Many locals came in and lined up the for self serve option, where a server loaded up their trays with their requests. We didn't try this, but it was very popular and I assume, quite affordable if you're on a budget.
We chose to dine in and selected the following from the menu: 1 chicken shish-kebab 1 Adana Kebab 2x Efes beers (large) 2 small bottles of water 2x Turkish tea 1 Baklava (to share) Complimentary flat bread was given. This came to a total of 1850 Turkish Lira. (Approx $67 AUD or €33.5 euro)
The service was welcoming, friendly and prompt. We really enjoyed ourselves and would absolutely recommend this...
Read moreDelicious, vegetarian authentic Turkish lunch!! The food was full of flavour and I was so happy to see 6-8 vegetarian curries on offer (plus meat ones too). There are many condiments, pickles, chillies cheese desserts, Turkish drinks available as well.
The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was so cool. The interior design was eclectic and visually pleasing. We saw many local families laughing and socialising. We even saw retail workers who served us at Turk Cell at lunchtime, which indicates it’s a local spot.
Some reviews say they overcharge tourists, which may be true. My advice is to do what the locals do (as we saw afterwards) and select 2-3 dishes and pay for your tray before seating.
I think the hospitality of the restaurant host worked for us and against us. He was very kind in explaining the dishes and preparing us a vegetarian meal. However, we were likely charged for each of the curries and were not in control of our bill because we didn’t pay before seating/eating.
As Australians, we felt the value for money was still great at roughly $12AUD (148TRY) each.
Overall, highly...
Read moreMy husband left a review already about this place, but i wanted to nave my own. I fell in love with the food in this restaurant. We were there for a week in January 2023 and found it on our second last day. We wished we would have found it sooner. We tried the slowcooked beef, lamb, the aubergine stuffed with mince, amazing the potatoes and carrots that came with it and other dishes but my favourite was the lamb because it was so nice to have a dish with the bones cooked in it, so tasty but really hard to find so i was delighted to find that. Real home come food at a great price. The workers, all family, work so hard and are so nice, lovely, and helpful. We really appreciated their service, and they couldn't have done enough for us. They were delighted to find out we were from Ireland too as their good friend is studying there now. When we are back in Bodrum, we will, without a doubt, be going back...
