The Only Bad experience in Turkey!!
Travelling is all about experiencing good things and an extremely rude guy who looked like the manager of this restaurant was the show spoiler for us.
I believe that the intention to open an Indian restaurant in Istanbul is to target primarily Indian tourist. And for Indian tourists travelling abroad and finding an Indian restaurant after a long time can be really exciting and the same was true for us. We found this restaurant on internet and walked down to this restaurant at the end of a street which was full of amazing restaurants serving turkish food and some staff doing full time job of only convincing the people to try their food in the most polite way.
But this restaurant does none of it as it knows it is the only Indian restaurant may be in that area and over the top they are arrogant and rude. Upon reaching we didn't find any smiling staff approaching us in first place like other restaurants on the same street. But we didn't bother as all we wanted to experience was some good Indian food in istanbul which was already so nice to us.
As I was with my wife they offered us the table for two which was kept right in front of the restaurant as you can see in some of the pictures where one would be continuously disturbed by the waiters getting food from inside the restaurant. we requested for a table where we can sit without getting disturbed. But surprisingly the manager denied us our preferred seat even when all the tables were unoccupied. While we asked him why won't he let us choose our preferred seat, he very rudely replied that 'You are here for experience but we are here to earn' and can't offer us any other table. By the time some other customers also came and the manager almost yelled at us that if you want to eat we will have to sit there else there is no seat. As it was quite late and we were tired of hectic day tours, We ignored his behaviour as decided to focus on food and leave. Fortunately, the food was average. No complains for the shef and his staff.
At times an average restaurant with good welcoming staff makes up for average food they serve but not here! I would recommend to avoid this restaurant and experience some authentic turkish and very welcoming restaurants who serves you Pita bread with mint yogurt in the beginning and turkish tea at the end complementary as a good gesture!
This is for the owner of the restaurant to decide wether to keep such unfriendly and rude staff ( especially one guy who looked like a manger) who not only spoil the name of your restaurant and affect business but also give a bad experience of...
Read moreThis place has great butter chicken and aloo!! Super fresh butter naan. The server literally made our day. He was so welcoming and gave us some local very good recommendations on where to shop for certain things for the best price , where to go to the barber. Etc. He was friendly and did not push anything. ( if you are familiar with the area everyone is pushy and trying to hustle to get you into their restaurant but not here!). The venue is small but the table was clean and they also provide a blanket if it’s cold. Great Turkish coffee and they have a strong heater and wind shield so you are comfortable if you choose to eat here instead of upstairs or inside. The host even walked us alll the way over to the shop where we wanted to buy an “aqeeq” ring at a local price. He made sure to soak to them and we easily got a ring for $300 lira instead of $900 lira where they try to scam. Nice honest person and honest place. The America usd was about $14 for butter chicken $8 for aloo and $2 per naan. Not bad, but the butter chicken only had 4 small pieces of chicken. This is not enough for one...
Read moreI was a bit tired of Turkish food so found this Indian restaurant just 3 minutes walk from my hotel with a view of the Sofia Hagia.
I took advantage of the rooftop view (be warned, there is no elevator so quite a few stairs).
Ordered a paneer makhani and naan which were good. Server was very attentive and offered to take my picture. (I did understand what the other reviewer mentioned about feeling watched, though as server kind of stood there off to the side instead of making himself scarce during the meal).
The fellow at the next table was smoking which was annoying, but very common here so tough to avoid. I would say for constructive criticism that the lighting on the rooftop could be improved as it is kind of harsh. Replacing the bulbs with Edison bulbs, string lights, or Turkish lamps would improve the atmosphere.
They kind enough to offer me chai at checkout before I left. Service fee was included in the bill. Cost was fair for the area, which I found to be expensive.
Overall, would highly recommend if you are needed a break from Turkish food and want to get your Indian...
