I recently had the pleasure of visiting this family owned business, and I must say, it was an absolute delight. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warm and inviting scent of freshly baked bread, spices, and espresso. The menu was filled with a variety of traditional Turkish breakfast dishes, all made with the freshest ingredients and served in generous portions. The star of the show was the pişi, a classic Turkish frıed bread that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was served with a variety of spreads and sweet and savory toppings, including garlic and herb butter, , orange butter, honey, kaymak, and an amazing peanut butter sweeter with dates. Another standout dish was the menemen, a traditional Turkish egg dish made with tomatoes, peppers, and spices. The eggs were perfectly cooked and blended well with the rich and tangy tomato sauce. The breakfast also included a range of cheeses, olives, and fresh vegetables, which were beautifully presented and added a refreshing element to the meal. The homemade jams and marmalades were also a highlight, with a wide variety of flavors ranging from tahini with molasses to a carrot and orange marmalade that was to die for. To accompany our meal, we were served a traditional Turkish tea, which was the perfect complement to the rich and hearty breakfast. Overall, I would highly recommend the Velvet Cafe to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying dining experience. The food was delicious, the coffee was fantastic, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was above and beyond with a most friendly and attentive staff. If you're a fan of breakfast foods (or just good food in general), or just looking to try something new, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

It was my first time trying Turkish Breakfast so wasn't sure what to expect and I was excited to try Velvet Cafe given all the positive reviews. Unfortunately it didnt live up to our expectations and other reviews. The food came out very slow and they forgot our eggs which we only realised at the very end, once everything else was finished. The eggs were very salty and so couldn't finish it. The quality of the food and taste of the different spreads was okay, not heaps of food just lots of bread. Not worth 400 lira per person in my opinion. The fried bread was tasty though. However, the wait staff were really lovely and friendly. The atmosphere was quite nice. Maybe the other food options might be better.

It is my first day in Istanbul. I happened to see the Velvet Café on Google maps near my Airbnb. It looked intriguing and I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. I am a solo traveler and they seated me in the lovely garden. The traditional Turkish breakfast was suggested and I took the suggestion. If ever there was a time for mindfulness when eating, it was here. The food was a kaleidoscope of color and an explosion of flavor. I savored every bite. The wait staff explained each dish as it was set on my table and they checked in with me to make sure everything was okay even with a full house of customers. Truly an experience in eating. I highly recommend it if you are in the Balat area.

We recently visited this restaurant and found the ambiance to be quite delightful, perfect for a relaxing meal. The food, particularly the Turkish breakfast, was delicious and well-prepared. However, the service was a bit stiff and formal, which detracted slightly from the overall welcoming atmosphere. We were also surprised by an additional charge for sharing our breakfast, which is unusual in Turkey, where meals are typically generous enough to be shared. While the food and setting were great, this unexpected charge and the service style were not quite what we expected. Nevertheless, if you're looking for good Turkish cuisine and a pleasant environment, this place still merits a visit.

It’s a charming & heartwarming cafe that offers variety of brunch and breakfast options. I ordered the cheese quiche and Turkish kahve, all made & served to perfection. The owner of the place told me that they use the family’s recipe and boy did it come out great! If you happen to take a walk around Balat, do try to find this hidden gem (it’s not really that hidden, but is indeed a gem 💎)—stop by for some good homemade style food and enjoy the hospitality and warmth of the staff. And if you happen to be a tourist, take a peek inside the toilet.. I didn’t get to take a pic of it, but it’s really cute and authentic, Turkey’s style in the old days, I assume. ☺️

Velvet Cafe offers incredible food. This is hands down my favourite place to eat in all of Fatih and Istanbul. Reserve in advance so you can sit outside. All the menus are created handmade and there is a beautiful family feel to the place. The food is made with love and care and the staff are always smiling and delightful. I had the turkish breakfast and it was insane. The honey was the best I had ever tasted, and as well as the usual food served (cheese, olives etc), there was also personal touches such as the onion bread and dough ball. These were so delicious. I shall be back once I am in Turkey again!!
