Yanyalı Fehmi is a true gem tucked away at the end of Kadıköy’s fish market – a place where history, tradition and genuine Turkish hospitality all come together beautifully. As soon as you step inside, you’re surrounded by old photographs and vintage details that immediately draw you into its story. You pass by the display counter filled with an impressive variety of dishes, each one more tempting than the next. Choosing what to eat here is almost impossible – everything looks inviting.
Once seated, the courteous and attentive staff brought the menu, showcasing a rich selection of Turkish classics: from grilled meats and stews to rice dishes, olive oil vegetables and hearty home-style plates. It’s a menu that reflects real culinary heritage, executed with a sense of mastery and respect for tradition.
We tried the Soğan Yahni, Kadın Budu Köfte, Etli Yaprak Sarma, and Pilav – each dish was outstanding. The yahni was deep and comforting, the köfte perfectly seasoned and tender, the sarma delicate yet full of flavour, and the rice buttery and fragrant – the kind of balance that only an experienced kitchen can achieve.
For the quality of the food and the care that goes into it, the prices are more than reasonable. Yanyalı Fehmi isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a living piece of Istanbul’s culinary history, and one that deserves every bit of praise...
Read moreFor everyone planning to dine at this restaurant please read my review before thinking to go there. Firstly don't get fooled by how fancy the restaurant looks like from the outside. Secondly if you want to waste your money and get scammed then go ahead. The restaurant is overpriced in a crazy way compared to how unhygienic the food looks like. Just a plain plate of rice costs $5 or and equivalent of more than 120tl so if you are a family of 6 and each one orders rice thats $30 alone, put in mind you haven't yet ordered chicked fish or meat yet which their prices will even shock you more. They will never show you the menu with the prices at all, when you ask them for the menu they will tell you " oh our menu prices are old and unupdated but go ahead sit so we can serve you" if you go ahead and sit then congratulations you have been trapped. Honestly the dishes prices are 200% more than any other place you can dine at with your family with far lower prices and better quality. Last advice for everyone and tourists coming to Istanbul dont not dine at this restaurant for your own pocket benefit and save your money for somewhere else. I hope my review will rescue many people from...
Read moreI’ve eaten there a couple of times. The food is generally really tasty. Any dish with red meats, especially lamb, is delightful. The stuffed peppers are good and if you had to order one thing off the menu, I would go with the beğendi Kebab as it’s easily my favorite dish that they serve. The mashed potato’s taste wonderful and are smooth and creamy, and the meat is one of the best I’ve tried in Istanbul. It’s hard to believe these dishes are pre prepared but that’s a bonus since that makes the service time almost nonexistent and the taste isn’t at all sacrificed in the process. I will say though, the fried potatoes they serve as a side in some plates was borderline inedible from how rubbery, chewy and tasteless it was but the rest of the food easily made up for this minor inconvenience. Overall a place I would recommend but only if you’re ready to spend a good amount since it’s by no means on...
