We were invited to dine at Flamingo Room by tashas in Jumeirah Al Naseem last night, and from start to finish, it was a truly memorable evening. This refined yet relaxed dining destination blends African glamour with a contemporary edge, offering a setting that’s as striking as it is welcoming.
The moment we walked through the magnificent brass doors — intricately hand-tooled with African flora and fauna — we knew we had arrived somewhere special. The high ceilings, glowing baobab light installations that shift in colour, and chic interiors created an atmosphere that felt both elegant and playful, just like the pink flamingo that inspired the name. The space also houses Collective Africa, a stunning retail area showcasing treasures sourced from across the world, reinforcing the restaurant’s ode to Africa’s beauty and sophistication.
Flamingo Room captures Africa at its most stylish, avoiding clichés and instead focusing on its rich natural tapestry, flora, fauna, and timeless glamour. It’s old-school dining reimagined — classic dishes elevated with modern techniques, perfect for lunch, dinner, or evening cocktails.
We began our meal with a crisp Caesar salad featuring anchovies, gem lettuce, sourdough crumb, and a well-balanced Caesar dressing. The crab and lobster croquettes were a highlight — perfectly golden and crunchy, served with saffron aioli, herb oil, and a light fennel salad with apple and popcorn shoots. The sea bass crudo was fresh and vibrant, with coriander, jalapeño, green apple, cucumber pickle, fresh herbs, and shallots bringing brightness to the delicate fish.
For mains, we sampled a variety of dishes. The short rib boeuf bourguignon was rich and comforting, with tender slow-cooked short rib, baby mushrooms, rainbow carrots, and onion jus, served alongside creamy mashed potatoes. My choice, the whole sea bream, was beautifully presented in a butterfly cut over herbed yoghurt sauce, lemon dressing, and green oil — fresh and full of flavour. The corn and burrata ravioli offered a unique twist, with charred sweet corn, creamy burrata, fresh truffle, and basil butter.
To drink, we enjoyed several of their signature mocktails, including the refreshing Basil Crunch and the fruity Strawberry Dream.
Although we were already full, we couldn’t resist dessert. The Flamingo Room baked Alaska was a showstopper — cracked open at the table and drizzled with rich chocolate syrup over layers of dark chocolate ganache, chocolate sponge, vanilla semifreddo with caramel, chocolate crisp, and meringue. For something lighter, the vanilla & raspberry mille feuille was a perfect choice, with fresh raspberries, raspberry coulis, diplomat crème, vanilla ice cream, and caramelized sugar snaps.
From the elegant décor to the attentive service and well-crafted dishes, Flamingo Room by tashas offers an elevated yet relaxed dining experience that blends African-inspired elegance with contemporary flair. Whether you’re visiting for a long lunch, a romantic dinner, or cocktails with friends, it’s a place that leaves...
Read moreThey must be paying Tripadvisor to block negative reviews (which would explain why they only have circa 250 reviews on there) as I’ve posted the below 3 times and it never appears! 2 other members of my group have also tried posting, to no avail! Just adds to the whole experience really.
Honestly, I have never felt so desperate to get out of a restaurant in my life!
Despite having made a reservation, and the restaurant being fairly quiet for a Saturday evening, we were sat on what would be deemed the worst table in the restaurant. We were positioned between the front door, the waiting / serving station and the kitchen door - it was like having a table in the middle of sheikh zayed road! Additionally, we were sat directly below a very large and very cold AC unit which blasted our heads with cold air throughout the entire meal - I have left with an awful headache.
In addition to all the above, the service was shocking by any standards - in fact, I would deem The Cheesecake Factory’s service as better quality. Our bottled water was dumped at one end of the table for us to pass around and serve ourselves, our main courses arrived with our starter plates still on the table, we weren’t asked how our food was at any point during our meal, our main courses were cleared whilst people were still eating, and plates were cleared with food still on them, despite us not being asked whether we’d finished. We were never asked whether any members had an allergy’s and when notifying the waitress that one member had a severe nut allergy, I’m not sure she took any notice of it - it was like it went in one ear and out the other.
Most alarming was that a pregnant member of our party was served alcohol when ordering an elderflower cordial with soda water! Rather than apologise, the manager argued and suggested that it was our poor communication or a simple mistake - serving alcohol to anyone that is avoiding it for either religious or medical reasons is NOT a simple mistake! Eventually another manager came over and apologised and replaced the drink but it was too little too late. There was no effort from their side to rectify the situation. Following this, we were asked whether we were on vacation, probably to ease their minds that it’ll be no loss to their business, despite the fact that we were previously regular visitors to this restaurant.
It goes without saying that we won’t be back - it’s a shame as the food was good but the service is alarming. They show absolutely no regard for the health and well-being of...
Read moreI have visited Dubai many times and have always experienced excellent service wherever I have been. This has to be the worst experience I have received in a restaurant. We arrived as a family of 5 adults and should have realised as soon as we were given the worst table in the restaurant, in a gangway, with an air conditioning unit above our heads, next to a serving area and with constant traffic from waiting staff and customers alike, that the evening would only get worse. We were correct. We ordered our food and drinks ( two bottles of water and an elderflower cordial with soda) and informed our server of a serious nut allergy with one member of our party. (not sure she took this on board). The bottles of water arrived promptly, but were just plonked on the table unopened for us to open and serve ourselves. A further 15 minutes passed and with no sign of the remaining drink, we asked if it had been forgotten. The drink eventually arrived, but instead of it being the cordial and soda that was asked for it was an alcoholic drink - it was specifically ordered for my pregnant daughter. Imagine her shock when she tasted it and it was not the soft drink she had ordered. A Manager was called and she inferred we had made the mistake! Next the main courses arrived, which we all agreed tasted good - however, as our side plates were still on the table, we quickly had to move and stack them up ourselves, to make way for the main course dishes. It was a bit like being in a self service canteen. Pour your own drinks and stack up the plates. Not once during our meal did any member of the staff come over and ask how everything was. Plates were taken away individually from the table as members of our party finished, which meant that one person was left eating on his own. Side dishes were taken away which still had vegetables in them - no one asked if they were finished. Needless, to say we didn't stay for desserts. Overall a very very disappointing experience. The crowning glory was when we were paying, the waitress asked if we were on holiday (I guess this meant we weren't going to come back, so it didn't matter). My daughter and son-in-law visit Dubai at least 10 times a year, and have visited this restaurant before - I am not sure they will be returning after this latest experience. With such good service in all the other restaurants - you really need to up your game and place more importance on good...
