I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding my recent visit to the Italian restaurant in Dubai.
While the restaurant's interior decor was aesthetically pleasing and its location boasted an excellent setting, a major concern arose in the form of lingering cigarette odors permeating even the designated non-smoking area. This issue significantly detracted from the appeal of the restaurant, particularly for families or those seeking an environment free from the scent of smoke.
Turning to the culinary aspect, I encountered an astonishing lack of flexibility from the chef when a simple request was made to add pizza toppings to a kids' pizza. This initial refusal to accommodate customer preferences set a discouraging tone for the remainder of the dining experience. Regrettably, the chef, who appeared rather youthful and inexperienced, seemed reluctant to deviate from the items listed on the menu, even declining to incorporate olives onto a beef pizza or combine beef and olives on a Margherita. This refusal to fulfill a straightforward request was perplexing and disheartening.
Furthermore, the overall quality of the cuisine fell below acceptable standards. Even after begrudgingly settling for a standard pizza option, it was disheartening to discover that the pizza was undercooked, featuring raw dough edges that undermined the dining experience. Unfortunately, the culinary disappointments did not end there, as a hot starter arrived cold and a chicken dish emanated an unwelcome aroma reminiscent of a poultry farm.
Given the above issues, I find it necessary to assert that this establishment falls considerably short of the esteemed standards typically associated with Dubai's established fine dining establishments. Restaurant Loren, despite its promising newness and impressive setting, regrettably fails to deliver the authentic Italian dining experience that patrons would rightfully expect.
It is indeed regrettable that an establishment with such a stunning location and tasteful decor should be marred by such glaring shortcomings. The only positive notes worth mentioning were the well-maintained restrooms and the courteous staff responsible for attending to these facilities.
In conclusion, I express my hope that the concerns highlighted in this review are addressed with the urgency they merit. A restaurant with such potential deserves to rise above its current deficiencies and truly deliver the exceptional dining experience that its setting suggests it...

Read moreNavigating the restaurant scene in Dubai is a little like surfing a culinary wave. There's plenty of global names rolling into the city with a loud splash, but finding that special balance to put a smile on your face is a rare thing, lucky for me I discovered Loren.
I'll level with you, I visited half a dozen big name restaurants prior to todays lunch- many recently opened and many of them with serious pedigree. However, they don't manage to replicate the magic of their origin restuarant wheter that's in Paris, New York, London or beyond. Many of them are also so spookily expensive you begin the process of remortaging your home during the appetisers.
Loren is different. You can feel that the guys who set this place up knew exactly what they were doing- and wanted to create something that stands alone.
As you enter and ascend the impressive staircase lined with vintage art, you're welcomed by beaming staff. Moving into the main restaurant, aside from the eye catching decor and one of the slickest open kitchens you'll find, yet more staff beaming away- making you feel right at home.
However, nothing surprises or delights you as much as the food. Hokkaido scallop ceviche with truffle yuzu, asparagus and crispy pana- balanced, bursting with flavour and faultlessly presented.
The beef tartare was served with miniature brioche buns which was a nice touch. Their steak is exceptional, richly flavoured, aged and cooked perfectly- their accompanying chips the epitome of moreish. There could have been more sauce, but compared to the culinary firepower on display, it's smallfry.
I finished with their 'on demand' gelato- literaly whizzed to order and the Loren No.5, a take on Rum Baba which was about as perfect a dessert as you can get with chantilly packed to the brim with vanilla beans and a rich and creamy zambaglione.
Loren wasn't just a pleasant surprise, it's one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at for a very long time. If you're anywhere near the west beach palm, or frankly within 24 hours travel- put it at the top...
