The 9 of us booked Bills for a girls reunion. We all chose the 90 minute bottomless Prosecco and meal to go with. The first prosecco was brought out edit each of us and we were told that once we had all finished our glass we would need to ask for another as a table. The glasses were then taken and refilled which took a while. Staff then decided to leave us with the bottle. I ordered the classic burger and was given the option of medium or well done, I chose well done. It was burnt.
I asked if I could swap, staff took it away without an apology. I then waited for ages and another burger was brought out, with another portion of chips. However everyone else had finished their meal at this point.
We were brought the bill immediately after I had finished eating and paid. This was an hour after we arrived. We then asked for more Prosecco, as we had only had 2-3 glasses each and it was bottomless. We were told that we couldn’t as they had closed the tab. We said it was advertised as 90 minutes, however staff said that the tab was closed so the 90 minutes was cut off at 65. If we had known we were going to lose 25 minutes we would have asked to wait to pay.
We argued this and they said they could apologise with two glasses of Prosecco for the 9 of us to share but nothing more than that.
2/3 glasses of Prosecco for bottomless Prosecco is poor service. Cutting off a 90 minute bottomless Prosecco at 65 minutes and charging full price is poor. Serving burnt food and then me having to eat after everyone else and being charged is poor.
I had to pay £32 for a burnt burger and 3 glasses...
Read moreThe best Bill's there is!
I have been to many Bill's around the country. The food is pretty consistent across the chain, so you can be sure of getting some tasty good quality food.
That said, Bill's in Bath stands head and shoulders above the rest. This is one very well organised restaurant.
I have dined here on a number of occasions, so will refer to just one for this review.
Turning up for a mid-morning breakfast on Father's day (2023), without a booking, tends to phase most restaurants, but not Bill's in Bath. There were no panicked looks and no scrabbling around wildly before being told it was all too much! (Yes, I really have experienced comments such as this at a variety of restaurants). Despite the venue all but overflowing with diners, a pleasant table was found and our lovely waiter Ben ensured our dining experience went smoothly and in a relaxed manner. Top marks For Bill's and Ben!
The food is always good quality, well-presented and tasty. There are plenty of options for different dietary requirements.
I have removed one star for food as, and unfortunately this is increasingly common, the poached eggs were a little on the hard side. (The yolk on a poached egg should burst free like lava from a volcano, unless requested otherwise.) It was, as I say, a very busy day, so the kitchen staff had no doubt cooked batches of eggs in advance to avoid delays. Benefit of the doubt given, and if the eggs are cooked appropriately on my next visit that extra star...
Read moreIt's ironic this is located in Cheap St as its anything but. Overpriced, average food. The serving staff are nice but the food is honestly average. Cold poached eggs for three of us, most of our food lacked basic seasoning and just not tasty. It was super busy so that could mean one of two things - we were unlucky, or they don't need to make much effort as they have footfall from the tourist community. Either way the kitchen staff need to up their game. If they are putting eggs in an ice bath after cooking they were served stone cold and unpleasant. Bills cheesey potatoes were undercooked cubes of potato with velveteea? Kraft slice? Orange processed cheese melted with a couple of slices of onion...really unappetising. Add in tinny music blasted out in an already loud environment and all in all not a great experience. Felt sorry for the overworked staff who were rushing around trying to serve, sit, bring bills and check in with everyone. It needs a reset with some decent food and...
