Sydney's — Restaurant in Bath

A strange experience here, possibly my worst ever and a stranger response from the owner on a similar post below.

Owner was rude, told us we could “leave now or get a bill” when we asked why maintenance was going on whilst there were diners in and restaurant was “open”. Treatment was so strange we took him up on his offer and left with some untouched plates and half full drinks on the table.

Owners poor attitude aside, the interior is well done and can imagine terrace would be nice on a sunny day. Appreciated waiter helping us get buggy upstairs pre-rain where we ordered food and drink before heading back downstairs.

However, fabricated and convenient response to a terrible customer interaction from the owner below means I’ll pass and head elsewhere next time! Anticipating an equally OTT and defensive response on this review as opposed to the apology that might have been owed...

Visited for lunch and was met with a highly unprofessional atmosphere. Despite being told food was still being served, we were seated right next to loud building works with tools and tradespeople in the bar area. Staff appeared disinterested, and a request for a high chair was reluctantly fulfilled. One waitress was helpful but when we explained that we felt uncomfortable with the drilling she brought over the owner. After politely raising our concerns, the owner’s response was confrontational, giving us an ultimatum, to leave now or pay the bill — no apology offered. Food was average, but the service and environment made for a thoroughly unpleasant visit. We were both shocked and left abruptly after being made to feel so uncomfortable by the owner. Having a bit of a tough night — even at the start of a Saturday evening service, half of the menu was already unavailable (including the fish goujons and fish cakes, which seems odd given it’s attached to a fish and chip restaurant next door). Service was pleasant but slow but likely because there was only one person serving the whole of the ground floor. Food was ok but for dishes which were cold / prepared it was a bit of a mystery why they took so long to arrive and didn’t arrive together.
