I came to Bath recently, for the first time, on a mini little break before starting at the University part time. I did my research before travelling, and decided to go here to grab a hot chocolate after reading the good reviews! I popped by on a Monday morning before 9am. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the shop and was warmly greeted by the staff, who were friendly and helpful in aiding me in deciding whether to have an alternative milk or not/how each may affect the experience etc. I went for the dark hot chocolate (note: they only do dark and white hot chocolates) with oat milk. You can see them use proper chocolate to make this - none of that powder stuff! I wondered about my morning with hot chocolate in hand and took a sip, with the beverage being the perfect temperature for drinking almost instantly. This was truly decadent and rich in cocoa from the dark chocolate. It was thick enough to be luxurious, but not too thick making it heavy/feeling you were drinking a milkshake! I would say that this was definitely a dark hot chocolate, and while I enjoyed the slight bitterness, I feel those wanting a super sweet hot chocolate may not be as satisfied with this (perhaps preferring the white hot chocolate on offer here). I would definitely return to and recommend others visit The Columbian Company for their morning beverage, I'd also love to give some of their baked goods a go which...

We ordered 2 batch brews and were told that there would be a couple of mins between the two coffees. We informed the barista that we had a train to catch but a couple of mins is fine - usually batch brews are the fastest coffees to order because they've already been made in batch. We waited 7 mins for the first coffee but then had to go for the train and couldn't wait another 7 for the next one. We weren't told that they would take so long, and they knew we were heading for a train, but they still charged us TEN POUNDS for 2 coffees and didn't refund the coffee that we couldn't wait for even though they hadnt started making it yet. Charging so much for a coffee is ridiculous in the first place (usually batch brews cost about £3-3.50), but charging so much and taking so long without telling us the time they'd take when they knew we were on our way to the train stattion is also just bad service. Not refunding us for the second coffee when they hadn't even started to make it is just scammy.
To cap it all off the one coffee we did get was bad and tasted a little burnt and very metallic. £5 for it is completely ludicrous.

Read moreWe’ve been going to this coffee shop in Bath since Juanpol and Veronica first opened. The coffee has always been exceptional - one of very few in Bath who knew how to make an excellent oat flat white! However, on our visit today, my wife was very disappointed in her flat white….. the reason being is that they no longer make it with Oatley barista milk. The coffee is no longer rich and creamy but has a rather unpleasant after taste. Oat milk is, I suppose, an individual taste. But, in my wife’s opinion, the coffee was spoiled and she will not be back. Very sad, cos it is a lovely independent cafe and if you’re not fussy about your oat milk, the...
