I wish I could say I had the same experience as others here but honestly, if they had the same up some standards. I went here expecting a nice finer dining experience, and although I cannot fault the food one bit the service was abysmal. I don't think I've ever had worse.
Our waiter was friendly but sadly, not up to scratch at all. We got no descriptors of the foods despite having an allergen booking too. They didn't even note it was a special celebration despite it being on booking. No notes for the wines. Even our table water took 20 minutes. It's like each time our waiter visited the table he couldn't wait to leave and the service only improved when complained about. To summarise more. We booked our table for 21:30 and didn't get our mains til 22:40 as they couldn't even keep up clearing tables. No surprise when you disappear off the floor regularly. The other wait staff did not. And when calling over other staff so we could actually order he was rude enough to say "I was waiting for you" when we couldn't even see them in the venue. Here clearly operates the whole starters are back whip up the mains and if you ain't collecting those starter plates its just a wait on top of the wait for the starters too. It's extremely rare we do this but my partner even bought up the experience with the manager and I really hope they take the feedback. I myself said straight I've had considerably better service at a Nandos and lower end places and that this has soured what for us was meant to be a celebration. The worst part though. Due to the time we finally got our food we were also left with the drunks that wouldn't stop screaming and shouting with the restaurant saying nothing to them. Bare in mind I've had that happen at the likes of Bar & Block and seen people kicked out for it. I couldn't even finish the dinner thanks to the foul atmosphere. One of the patrons walked up to the plant right next to us and humped it. He spanked himself at one point whilst his assumed partner repeatedly shouted babe at the top of her lungs and the rest of the table too were just plain rude. It felt like we were the only ones not inebriated and it's rare I have the most decorum in a room, heck normally I enjoy bringing it down a notch but here I'd have to get naked to do that, a true challenge venue.
I will say the manager gave us a discount due to the errors that equated to our wine being free but the remaining bill was still not worth it one bit. I honestly feel robbed of both my money and what should have been a nice experience. You would now have to pay me to ever return here. The food is good but nowhere near that price especially combined with the service. I'll remind others Pasture is just down the road. Fazenda next door and M&C a short walk away too. And each of those know how to treat their patrons. Cook a good steak and have excellent wines. You'll get real service.
I will also say all of this can be corroborated by their own cameras if HO would like to review, which I think they very much should. I'll be writing to them separately. We were the table sitting just as you enter the main room after the bar. You'll see the smiles fade from my partner's face as the night goes on and the fact she bought me there for a finer experience? She's absolutely devastated and she is still apologising to me. She has nothing to apologise for, the experience was the let down other than the food but even that was soured by obnoxious patrons that the venue wouldn't act on.
Final note, this is the only place I've eaten in three whole years where a manager didn't take my order due to allergens. It did not instill confidence and should have been our...
Read moreGot recommended Gaucho by a friend so I thought I would take the partner for her 30th. I didn’t mention anything at the restaurant as I wanted to have a nice quiet meal and didn’t want any fuss.
Firstly the chap who looked after us was incredible, he was quick, friendly, talkative and I cannot fault him one bit.
We ordered our main as neither me or my partner wanted a starter so I had the 400g rib eye and my partner had the fillet. Before we actually get to the food review, I need to mention one thing that blew my mind - We were only given some sort of butter knife to cut the steaks with which is the first time I have ever experienced that at a steakhouse, I have never in my life (even at Wetherspoons) paid for a steak at a restaurant and not received a sharp knife to cut it with. I had to ask the waiter for one and he said they didn’t have any which was bizarre, in the end he managed to find one and kindly brought it out but come on guys, for a fancy restaurant charging the prices you do, at least supply quality cutlery.
This brings me to the next part - the food.
My partners fillet steak she really enjoyed but all meals come with one side where other steak houses will come with a bit more like Miller and Carter comes with lettuce and an onion loaf - my rib eye that I paid 50 pounds for was as tough as old boots, I asked for medium rare but it was actually closer to blue and it was full of so much gristle and fat that it was so hard to cut through and chew, you can imagine the challenge I faced when I had to use this blunt knife they provided (hence why I was forced to ask for something sharper!!)
They supply some sauce with the meal which I didn’t like the sound of so I asked to switch to peppercorn so what did they do? They literally charged me an extra 4 pounds for the smallest pot of peppercorn sauce which I thought was a bit cheeky, at least just split the difference?
The only positive highlight of the food was the dessert, the cheesecake I had was incredible and I expressed this to our waiter, no complaints there.
Finally my partner ordered a tea with her dessert and was told it would come out at the same time, it never came out so I had to ask someone where it was and they brought it out but the tea bag was ripped and tea leaves were floating round the water and I assumed they would waive this off the bill since they forgot about it.
I received the bill at the end and I thought it would be like 130-140 really but the overall bill was 185 with the tea they forgot about left on and a 12% service fee which pushed it a bit for me!
Overall when you walk in to Gaucho, it’s a beautiful fancy aesthetic with brilliant service which clearly must be what you pay for because it certainly isn’t the food. I will definitely be sticking with Miller and Carter as I have never had to leave a bad review with them because they never miss. How can you charge so much for such a poor cut of steak and not even supply the appropriate cutlery?
Won’t be returning and in all honesty, I feel robbed. I have emailed the Birmingham branch with the same feedback but I feel people should probably reconsider before paying such a big price because you’ll get far better for less at other steakhouses. What a shame. An overpriced,...
Read moreCelebrated my partners birthday the other night and had a horrible and upsetting experience. My partner has been a lover of this restaurant and was very excited to go back again however the meal and experience was ruined by gaucho completely. Leaving myself in tears and my partner feeling deflated. We ran into multiple issues during our meal. My partner’s steak had a huge band of grizzle running through the middle making it extremely tough and chewy and lacking in quality, we flagged this to the waitress and she saw the quality of the steak and agreed it was not on par. Mine was also the same tough and very grizzly. The waitress said mine was “ok” and took my partners steak (just steak) back to the kitchen for them to make a new one. They said it would be 5 minutes. As it was his birthday we didn’t want to eat separately so I sat with my tough chewy steak and waited. Meanwhile his sides went cold, and as I was waiting too my sides and steak had gone cold I spoke to the waitress and said we’re celebrating a birthday we would like to enjoy this meal together not at separate times we were told my partners steak would be out in 5 minutes however it was more like 15 meaning everything had gone cold and it lacked in quality due to it being sat out. After mentioning it to the waitress she warmed our fries up but the quality had already reduced as they were sat out and gone cold meaning they were warm now but just not tasty we didn’t eat them. My steak despite mentioning they never offered to resolve, they did admittedly warm it up for me but for the price I’m paying and the luxurious dining experience they claim to offer a warmed up steak and soggy cold fries warmed up doesn’t shout “luxurious dining”. My steak was so grizzly and tough I wasn’t able to cut it and actually had to spit some out as I couldn’t eat it. This was a shocking experience as I’ve never had anything like it not at cheaper restaurants so to experience this from a higher end restaurant was truly shocking. My partners birthday was definitely ruined as it left me very upset and in tears and my partner deflated. A horrible experience. My partner had talked about how much he loved this restaurant for along time and how excited he was to go back and this has let us down tremendously. Awful experience, definitely gone down hill and quality has reduced significantly since previous visits....
