A mixed experience and I can only tell you what happened. My wife and I booked here from Booking.com for a reasonable price.
We were due to stay overnight on the Saturday and I received a text on the Thursday prior, asking if either of us were vegetarian (we're not). I replied and was texted the entry codes to the venue and our room. I asked if they'd still work on Saturday when we check in and received a reply saying they would but they'd made a mistake and breakfast isn't served on Sunday morning and a brekkie box would be provided instead. Great, no problems with that.
Arrived and used the codes with out any problems. Room lovely and spacious, nice and clean, comfy bed and all around a nice establishment.
Come Sunday morning I went to make a coffee to find the instant coffee jar had one cup left in it, no sugar and milk that went out of date the say before. Not great, but I managed to make a coffee and alls well with the world. I messaged the owner, Dee, who apologised and gave me the code for room 2 and instructed to use the condiments from there. I did, but also found there was hardly any milk and coffee in that room either. I messaged again to say what I'd taken (as a courtesy) and asked where I'd find the brekkie box. Had a reply that apologised and said "if it's not in the room they have missed them". No problem I thought the deli below said it's open Sundays I'll get a bite from there.
Unfortunately the deli below was also closed that Sunday so we were left with a lovely bed for the night but no breakfast. In fairness an apologetic message from Dee said it was the first weekend they'd opened since the 3rd lockdown and she "hates letting guests down" but i do think that's a double edges sword as I would assume you'd want to go the extra to impress to get future business but maybe that's just me.
All in all its a nice venue but let down by the experience. That's said I do intend to try them again and maybe I'll be able to come back and...
Read moreI think I must have gone to a different cafe to all the other reviewers on here! This was really dismal, one of the worst cafe experiences I have ever had. Really surly and impolite communication from the young woman serving, made me feel really unwelcome and she clearly has better things to do with her time than work in a cafe. She was really quite rude, totally unnecessarily, to the two people at the next table. The coffee was bearable (2 stars), my bacon and brie "hot sandwich" (I was expecting something like a toastie?) was greasy and half cold, not toasted, with a lifeless little pile of salad. 1 star at best. Seemingly put together in a hurry by someone who hates food? It wasn't busy when I went, but I felt like the staff were far too busy to care or be welcoming. Understaffed, poorly trained, or low morale? A really weird little place with no atmosphere. And "deli"? There was no deli counter or fresh food to buy (lunchtime on a Wednesday). Maybe I am spoiled by the excellent cafes where I live, or maybe the people of Bournville need to up their standards! PS I am definitely reviewing the right cafe! It's weird how entirely opposite my experience was to the...
Read moreI used to love this place, we visited today after about a year or so and if I'm completely honest I dont think we will return. The food on the menu sounds amazing but when it comes out it's not worth what you pay in my opinion. My sons sausages were quite burnt, we took the skin off for him to eat, my chorizo salad was tasteless and had hardly any peppers or onions and seemed to be mostly lettuce, I paid £9 for this. My partner had an omelette which used to be our favourite there, he said it was tasteless. My son had a small toddler size cup of apple juice for £2 something. Its not the Leverton & Halls I used to love. Tables were sticky and we waited ages to pay the bill. I understand why as the lady seemed very busy on her own. We had to leave to be somewhere so couldn't really be waiting for replacement meals so paid and left, it seemed like she was busy so didn't make a fuss, quite disappointed...
