Cannot rate this place highly enough.

Booked for a Sunday Lunch for 7 for a milestone birthday (Happy 80th birthday Ma). Booking straight-forward and confirmed dietary requirements for one (coeliac) of the party. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and good for a bit of banter.

One guest had the roast rolled shoulder of lamb which was described as phenomenally good. Two had the roast beef - both were very happy with their decision and extremely satisfied. There was a vegan sausage roast which got demolished. The birthday girl was more than satisfied with a kids roast chicken dinner (which would probably satisfy many adults). Yours truly doubled up with roast chicken and pork. The chicken was ridiculously good, some crispy skin and beautifully succulent. The pork was sensational with the most amazing crackling.

Nobody in the party was interested in desserts as the dinners were so, so good and filling.

The roast dinners were unbelievably good value for money. The veg was spot on and there was more than enough served up.

Will I book again? Absolutely if it fits in with plans.

Would I recommend? Abso-bloody-lutely.

As we went on a Sunday there was plenty of free on-street parking nearby.

Good work The Red Lion - from one very satisfied punter...

I like Red Lion as a pub for drinks, it has cute little beer garden and a terrace. But the food was a huge disappointment, as well as the service… Went for a Sunday roast which first of all was extremely overpriced! I was shocked to realise what we were paying for such a poor plate of food in a simple pub like this like it’s a fancy restaurant. A couple of friends were extremely disappointed about it since they got the tiniest portion of chicken in their roast, like it’s from a kids menu. One of the servers was also rude and annoyed, and kept making mistakes with our drinks or forgetting to bring them. We felt bad just for being there and bothering him on his work day… On top of all that, I ordered a vegetarian plate which made me gag after finding a piece of chicken between my vegetables! I didn’t want to raise an argument there but still had to tell one of the staff members. After telling one server about it and saying I hoped I didn’t accidentally eat any, he just replied ‘well yeah let’s hope you didn’t eat any!’. That’s it. Like it happens. Might go back there for drinks but...

I went on Sunday 20th August for lunch, with family. The service was dire. We ordered the roast belly pork and were asked to let the barman know where we were sitting. We found a table and I went back to the bar to inform them. There were 2 barmen and neither seemed attentive. After 20 minutes my cousin said I should go and check if they've placed our order as people were coming in after us, carrying wooden spoons with numbers on. Anyway they hadn't placed the order and we waited an hour for our meal. It wasn't busy but these guys either didn't know what they were doing or didn't care. There was a third guy who appeared to be bringing meals out and he seemed a lot more pleasant, helpful and 'on the ball'. The meal thankfully was superb apart from the roast potatoes which were quite tasteless. Gorgeous belly pork, large Yorkshire Pud, ample variety of veg and great gravy with apple sauce. We will go again but will find a table before ordering. Poor wine selection. Great...

I can see why it's popular, however the wife and I thought the same about what would have made it more enjoyable. We sat upstairs in what would be a very pleasant and warm setting but the room was dominated by rather large flat screen. Not a problem if West Ham v Leicester is of interest to you. I have no idea what they put on at other times. The service is friendly and efficient but I believe they were a "man down" which made it difficult for them. Our Sunday lunch meal was good, apart from the beef which was a bit rubbery and the frozen roast potatoes which were hard, dry and over seasoned. I strongly suggest these need to be replaced. Generous portions and a nice mix of vegetables hidden under the meat and Yorkshire made up for any short comings.

I love this pub! It's a small, Victorian pub with a traditional bar and lounge plus a lovely garden and sun terrace. This pub attracts an eclectic crowd - locals, sports fans, tourists and there is a great atmosphere. Food is fantastic but - be warned! - the portions are huge! Sunday roasts are amazing! It can take some time to get served at the bar, but they will set up a tab. A wonderful local and a "not-to-be-missed" JQ original. I recommend booking for Sunday lunch!

Food is delicious and servings are very decent, you won't be disappointed. I especially liked the variety of roasts on the menu. Only criticism is the actual decor is a bit run down, we thought we had the wrong place, it just felt dated. It wasn't full but we assumed it was related to the football finals. We were sat in the bar area and didn't see the rest but in general felt dated. I had the lamb and beef combo, I didn't finish it
