I have attended here multiple times for breakfast with work colleagues, and I feel the service has progressively declined. I returned with a different group of colleagues for another view, to be disappointed again. We attend normally between 9 and 10am and we are usually the only customers present. But most recently, a group of 7 attended and ordered 5 coffees, 2 teas, and 6 breakfasts. The drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, and arrived warm, not hot. Out of the 6 breakfasts, 4 arrived, 2 full english with burnt items, but the main issue being two breakfasts did not arrive. We were advised there had been an issue with new menu items not being in the ordering system, which goes to the kitchen. After a very apologetic waitress explained the failure, our breakfasts were made, arriving 15 mins after everyone had finished eating. Once our breakfasts arrived, which were 'mashy mashy', essentially smashed avocado on a muffin with poached egg and hollandaise sauce, we were again disappointed. The muffin was toasted yet cold, the avocado mash was full of coriander, which the menu makes no mention of, and neither of us like. This had been served straight from the fridge as it was cold. The poached eggs were warm but like hard boiled eggs, and one yolkless. All topped with luke warm tasteless hollandaise. Needless to say I ate one bite and left the rest. After waiting 45 minutes for food in an empty venue, I wasn't prepared to wait any longer to be served more cold food. The other dishes came mainly warm, but overdone also. On previous occasions, I have ordered the french toast from here, which had been cooked on the same griddle as the full English as I could taste the bacon on the bottom of the burnt toast. A similar experience with the pancakes, I could taste meat fat on them. Completely unacceptable if any diner was to be a vegetarian. Two colleagues had ordered separately and paid for their food, which were only scrambled eggs on toast, as they had a meeting 1 hour later. Their food came after everyone else's, and they had to leave half of it as it took 45 mins from ordering for it to arrive. Unbelievable given the explanation of 'can we order first and separately as we have a meeting in just over an hour'.
The cutlery is blunt, we had to ask for steak knives to cut toast and muffins as the normal knives were blunt.
On this last occasion, we were offered one meal off the bill for the inconvenience, but I certainly won't be returning after so many flawed experiences despite my patience...
Read moreAn amazing little hidden gem on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. A 1920s themed bar with wood fired pizzas and a very impressive interior reutilising the 19th century building that it is housed in. This is from the same team that is behind the Hen & Chickens; One of my favourite pubs also. Free parking after 18:00 and on Sundays outside the venue. Otherwise 4 hours free 8-6 Mon- Sat.
When you first approach the entrance, there's not much to see. A basic exterior with a walkway up to the entrance. The minute you enter however tells a different story. Shrubbery above you and the gorgeous whiff of the kitchen to your left encapsulates your mind. The high ceilings is a throwback to the older style buildings. Despite it being a Monday, it was full on covers and luckily I was able to get a table on the pizza counter. A great view of the wood fire oven and the kitchen.
Today I ordered the homemade chicken, pancetta and leek pie. £12.95. Pint of Diet Coke was £3.95. The pie was served within 10 minutes of ordering. Deep filled to the brim and a very generous portion. The puff pastry lid breaks down when you put your fork into it to reveal the filling inside. Really creamy and a top notch pie at that. Peas were cooked well and buttered. Fries were well salted and a ample amount provided. Tap water was also given to me without asking - a nice touch. Kelly my host was friendly and attentive.
Plenty of staff were around and readily available to assist you. The location also has a mezzanine level which I sadly didn't visit. I also would have got 25% off today using the Gourmet Society if I had booked in advance which is the main way I found out about this gorgeous location today. I can highly recommend it and...
Read moreWe recently discovered The Rolling Mill in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, and what a fantastic hidden gem it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, the ambience was warm and welcoming, striking the perfect balance between stylish and relaxed. It’s an ideal spot whether you’re catching up with friends, spending quality time with family, or just looking for a great meal out.
The service was exceptional—attentive without being intrusive, and the staff genuinely made us feel looked after from start to finish.
We went as a family (my wife and kids in tow), and everyone absolutely loved it. The menu offers an amazing variety of food that caters to all tastes, and everything we ordered was packed with flavour and beautifully presented.
Here’s what we had:
Small Plates: • Pan-Fried Gyoza – perfectly crisp and bursting with flavour • Bao Bun – soft, pillowy, and deliciously filled • Chicken Lollipops – crispy, juicy, and a hit with the kids
Large Plates: • Korean Chicken Burger – full of bold, spicy flavours with just the right crunch • Herb-Marinated Chicken – cooked to perfection and really well-seasoned
Sides: • Butter Chicken Fries – a unique twist and an absolute winner
Desserts: • Nuii Coconut Mango & Banana – tropical and refreshing • Nuii Salted Caramel Ice Cream with Chocolate Brownie – indulgent and heavenly
Drinks: • Mangolicious Mocktail • Mango & Coconut Mocktail Both mocktails were fresh, fruity, and a perfect match for the food.
