Dinner The Wilderness Rock and Roll fine dining.
This restaurant is located in the Jewellery Quarter part of Birmingham. Its been described as dark and moody with open kitchen and pumping music.
Well it is dark as the decor is black. Fortunately it was still daylight and the sun was shining through the roof skylights. We have been there at night and you might need a head torch to see your dinner🤣
Once sat at your table you scan a QR code to view the menu. As we were early doors at 6.00pm they have a 9 course tasting menu for £100pp. This sort of dining seems to be the norm now in restaurants of this calibre. It's a chance to try different dishes that you would probably not choose if it were A la carte.
First course is a sourdough flatbread topped with caviar and trout.
Next was sweetbreads with a very nice hot sauce.
"Slushie" sorbet
Orkney scallop in a Thai green sauce Cooked to perfection and delicious.
Seaweed salad - would of not ordered this if there was a choice. But OMG who knew it would be absolutely flavoursome.
Welsh Lam rib was devoured in seconds and we could eaten a bowl full of them.
Cornish duck was one of the best duck dishes we have ever had,and we have had quite a few in our time.
"Mr Whippy" think ice-cream with curry sprinkles.
Lastly was life and death of a strawberry which finished off the evening perfectly.
With its open kitchen you can watch Alex Claridge's lovely team at work. Service was friendly and brisk. The music wasn't that loud for a Saturday night.
If you want relaxed fine dining without the faff, then get yourselves here. Review helpful please like 👍...
Read moreAbsolutely superb! We had one of the best evenings at a restaurant we’ve ever had, and that’s all thanks to the staff, the service, the atmosphere and of course, last but not least, the food - thanks so much guys!
The place is so full of character and it’s great. The music is loud (not too loud though) and the place is all black, but it’s so comfortable and such a nice place to relax in still. The staff, every single one of them, were unbelievable, some of the best service we’ve ever had. They explained the dishes with personality and passion, and spent the whole night chatting away and being attentive, smiling and enjoying it as they did. Hoenstly the staff and service made this night what it was and I can’t thank and rave about them enough.
The food was of course sublime, with very unique and interesting flavour combinations that you won’t get to try anywhere else and for that reason this place is worth a visit at least once. The desserts were where this really shone, with a combinations of black garlic and chocolate, pumpkin, matcha and lime, and burnt apple and miso all being knockouts and a valiant end to a fabulous meal. Overall the food is undoubtedly up there, maybe not the absolute pinnacle, but definitely fun...
Read moreOwner is rude and clearly can't hack any negative feedback! No sense of professionalism to negative feedback.
After leaving a review on trip advisor, the owner comments that I am 'siri', which I find offensive and is bluntly mocking me. The booking at this restaurant was under my partners name, it does not mean I am Siri and cannot submit a review. I do not feel this response is professional nor respectful. It is quite humiliating as he points out 'it's all a bit suspect', indicating I am lying. I had little time to write the review and thought I would quickly summarise my experience. There is no sign of an apology to the experience I had and no professionalism to my honest opinion of the restaurant.
Just a quick one for the owner for future reference. If someone leaves negative or critical feedback, you really shouldn't mock them. It is the most unprofessional thing you can do. Just apologies even if they don't like your food :)
Adam's restaurant on Waterloo st is amazing. The owner is lovely and unlike this owner, the company thrives off feedback. I can guarantee the owner won't say 'siri had a bash at writing a review', if you don't like...
